Armed men seize Crimea parliament and hoist Russian flag

Armed men have seized the government buildings in the capital of the Ukraine’s Crimea region and hoisted a Russian flag over a barricade.

The men occupying the parliament building in the regional capital, Simferopol, early on Thursday did not come out to voice any demands. They wore black and orange ribbons, a Russian symbol of the victory in World War II. The men also put up a sign saying “Crimea is Russia.”

They threw a flash grenade in response to a journalist’s questions. Phone calls to region’s legislature rang unanswered, and its website was down.

They were going to have elections next year.

They had legit elections last time! "The West" is siding with a coup.

Remember when the neocons would prattle on & on about spreading democracy? Now, time after time, they support the overturning of elections that they don't like.

The neocons are increasingly hysterical in their impotence. I suspect next Sunday, McCain's head will explode on national TV.

One more line to Kerry-Obama slap down, again.
“they get slapped down but they get up again because they
are weak fools”.

Yep. One thing about Putin, he ain’t scared of the little stinky turd on a stick in the WH. Congress and the Supreme Court may be scared spit less, but not Puo-Poo. He knows he’s a gay, girlie type....weak and foolish.

South and east Ukraine is Russian. Defend it from whom, the Russians?

I think they’re after that part of the Ukraine occupied by the lawless protestors.

You are correct. Let’s not forget that the word ‘ukraine’ meant for a 1,000 years in both Russian and Polish ‘borderlands’, and that the country, or at first province was in fact created in the 1700s by Russia and Poland. The Russkies consider the Ukrainians their poor cousins and the Ukrainian language as a dialect of Russian, something like Ebonics (it is cruder than Russian.)

The Conservatives are siding with the uprising against a corrupt oligarchy, even if it had been elected. “This was a kind of uprising,” said a European Conservative,”that the Western societies are no longer capable of!” Enjoy your corrupt American oligarchy, it was after all legitimately elected. And re-elected.

Well, the Soviet method of pacification was to starve or deport the locals to Siberia and replace them with Russians, so, yes there are a lot of Russians in the Ukraine, particularly the East and South.

>>Crimea has changed hands so many times in the last 500+ years it is doubtful who holds any valid claim to Crimea.

The Russians there, as well as in Ukraine, are the descendants of Soviet colonizers sent to administer & control client countries. The Baltic states have the same problem.<<

In fact it is not true. It was a Scythian land in ancient times and ancient Greeks also had their city-republics on a Crimean coast. A thousand years ago it was took over by Ottomans. 300 years ago Russians has claimed Ottomans are persecuting Christians there (I wonder where they fond them at the time). They have thrown the Turks into a sea and burned their Navy, then Britain and France went to help the Turks. Russians has somehow lost the war (thus the French alone had four times as much KIAs as Russians) but it hasn’t really changed a thing as they’ve still kept Crimea until 1954.
As you can see there were no Ukrainians until Communists.

BS. It was the case for Germans and some Muslim tribes only. Modern Ukrainian demographics are purely historical.

The victory in the Cold War took decades and spanned several presidencies, but it took Obama just 5 years to start reversing those costly and hard fought gains.

Our foes realize they have nearly 3 years left, to advance during Obama’s term.

They know he seems to be nearly done with his wind down of America’s muslim conflicts, and doesn’t want any more conflicts.

How about the 10 million Ukrainians starved by Stalin and replaced in the communes by Russians. One of the worst genocides of the 20th century? Russians and Ukrainians won’t get along in our lifetimes.

What about 10 million Russians starved by Stalin (a Georgian) in Cuban and Volga regions, replaced by anyone else, including Ukrainians?
Do you know that Russia has some 20 million Ukrainian minority?

Russia could go into Latvia and the USA would do nothing under Odumbi. Odumbi is such a wimp, he probably changes his Facebook gender every damn hour.
