Hollywood Is Coming to Capitol Hill
Time ^ | 2/20/14 | Alex Rogers

Posted on 02/27/2014 5:17:18 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

Just in time for Oscar season, actors Ben Affleck and Seth Rogen will appear before two different Senate panels next week to testify about the Democratic Republic of Congo and Alzheimer’s disease, respectively.

Perhaps a surprise for those who picture Rogen and Affleck as the Green Hornet and Daredevil, both actors have a history of advocacy and using their celebrity to highlight issues that typically escape the front pages of the American press. In 2012, Rogen started with his wife Hilarity for Charity, an event that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the National Alzheimer’s Association. In 2010, Affleck founded the Eastern Congo Initiative to aid the victims of a country riddled with violence, poverty and disease.

Christian ministries work every day in the Congo, and with people who have Alzheimer's. Liberals in Congress, along with their perverted allies in the White House, want to DESTROY the rights of those Christians.

But actors? Oh my, ACTORS receive the applause.

Why does the Congo let these two commies in? Better question, why does it let them out?

Seth Rogan is an idiot - never mind the Canadian part. Sweet Bennie is just a poofter.

Maybe, just maybe, ben aflake could address the issue of “climate change” and it’s effect on the congo. Pretty soon the Congolese will be able to get fresh seafood. I mean, he is an expert right? I’m sure nobody is feeding him BS info. The problem with all these lofty goals is that the “author-it-I’s” end with most of the goodies and the folks that need them don’t get them. It’s almost like corruption is running rampant or something. So, bennie boy, quit acting like you know something. Hope you don’t feel to “icky” being close to, what some call, conservatives. Bless the missionaries that risk their lives trying to help these folks.

Next week? It was yesterday. Oh well it was all over the news last night but of course I have DC and Baltimore news so that probably explains why I get news as soon as it happens. Anyway I am thrilled with the Alzheimer’s discussion as it is important. However, Congo??? Really!

That film was really funny. Rogen co-wrote, co-directed and co-produced it.

Frankly, I thought it was immature and the product of a drug-addled mind(s). To watch the post movie interviews, I’m convinced of it.

It was about immaturity and highly critical of the lifestyle it depicted.

You may think the writers, producers, actors had some sort of a ‘statement’ like that in mind, but I saw all the extras with the movie and it was mostly “gee, wouldn’t it be really cool, etc. if we did/said this, or the like”.

There wasn’t any ‘statement’ about it involved. Unless it was one coming from a bank about the proceeds of the movie.

I heard part of Seth Rogan’s testimony this am on the radio coming into work. He was very funny and self deprecating. He was there to promote a charity he started for ALZHEIMERS. I know everyone here loves to bash Hollywood liberals, but the guy is trying to do something good. Please, give him a break.

I was going by what’s on screen which comes across as self critical. Jonah Hill has said they all play ‘d-bag versions of themselves’.

Why not? We’ve already had an actor/poser in the White House for six years. Nothing real about any of them.

Understood. But I think what came out was really the product of a loosely produced ‘idea’ of a script.

The really truly funny part of the movie was when Danny McBride (who got thrown out) became a leader of the new cannibals that sprang up, was when he had Channing Tatum on a leash and down on all fours as a submissive sex-slave...

As an actor, that took some resolve on the part of Channing. He played that part well.

Actors appearing before Congress to verbalize about their "feelings" on things of which they have only limited knowledge is not the most idiotic thing happening here.

What is most egregious is that some dolt in Congress felt them eminently qualified to do so.

Why was he in DC? He was there to ask for taxpayer monies for his chosen cause, right?

Does Franklin Graham go ask Congress to fund things HE works to accomplish?

What Constitutional right did Seth speak about? As far as I can tell, none.

Please don’t get me wrong....starting a charity is a very nice thing to do....but don’t come to DC and demand money from taxpayers who ALSO have causes THEY care about and want to fund. Just do the good work.
