UK spy agency intercepted webcam images of millions of Yahoo users

Britain's surveillance agency GCHQ, with aid from the National Security Agency, intercepted and stored the webcam images of millions of internet users not suspected of wrongdoing, secret documents reveal.

GCHQ files dating between 2008 and 2010 explicitly state that a surveillance program codenamed Optic Nerve collected still images of Yahoo webcam chats in bulk and saved them to agency databases, regardless of whether individual users were an intelligence target or not.

Yahoo reacted furiously to the webcam interception when approached by the Guardian. The company denied any prior knowledge of the program, accusing the agencies of "a whole new level of violation of our users' privacy".

This is rich. Yahoo is decidedly liberal and supports Obama to the max.

Can we please follow the example of our forefathers and cut ties with Britain completely? This “special friendship” is becoming a controlling relationship.

You seriously believe that the US isn’t the leading force behind “Five Eyes”? You reckon the Washington elite are taking their order from pernicious Albion rather than the other way around?

Every so often, a few inches before my webcam, I do a one-hand gesture involving the lifting of one finger while the other fingers, and the thumb, remain in a resting position.

Since this gesture is recognized throughout the civilized and uncivilized world, I enjoy the thought that somewhere, some fascist secret police thug is being annoyed by this gesture.

#1 Don’t use Facebook or similar.

#2 Put tape over the camera.

#3 “Salute” the camera every so often, just in case.

They are recording and storing Yahoo (prolly skpe and others too) face to face chats on messenger. It has nothing to do with electrical tape.
