Craig James files religious discrimination complaint against FOX

Former Patriots running back Craig James has filed a complaint with the Texas Workforce Commission, saying that FOX Sports discriminated against him on the basis of his religion when it took him off the air after one week as a college football commentator.

When James lost his job with FOX Sports Southwest, a network spokesman was quoted as saying James didn’t fit in with the company because of the anti-gay statements he had made when he ran for the United States Senate in 2012. James is now claiming that by firing him for his anti-gay statements, FOX discriminated against him for his religious beliefs. James’s representatives called FOX taking him off the air an “outrageous example of workplace bigotry against people of faith.”

During his campaign, James criticized another candidate for attending a gay pride parade and said homosexuals “are going to have to answer to the Lord for their actions.” James, who quit a previous job at ESPN to run for Senate, received just 4 percent of the vote in the Republican primary. He attempted to get back into broadcasting after his political defeat but has not been on the air other than that one week at FOX Sports Southwest.

Rush Limbaugh was fired by ESPN for calling an overrated black quarterback an overrated quarterback.

Craig has always seemed to be a very nice well centered Christian man who has always worked for what is right and now has lost a job for speaking the truth. Not only did Fox destroy his sports broadcasting career, but maybe even his political aspirations.

The type of religions discrimination in the workplace that Craig has been victim to is becoming more and more common. Other Christian athletes have been penalized by their leagues for speaking out against gays and now some leagues, the NBA and very soon the NFL will force Christian players to play with and against gay men and even share a locker room with their gay team mates.

fox must learn that Christians have the right of free speech and the right to express Christian values at the workplace.

OJ Simpson was fired from ABC’s Monday Night Football because they knew he would one day commit a double murder. Or because he was an inarticulate half-wit who viewers could barely understand. I forget which. /s

Rush’s complaint was specifically directed at the sports media for over-promoting a quarterback just because he was black. Can’t be saying that the emperor has no clothes, ya know.

I’m an evangelical Christian. But, it’s becoming tiresome when sportscasters spout off on topics not germaine to the game at hand. Btw, No one has destroyed James’ sports and/or political aspirations but James himself. Don’t know about his broadcasting chances but I know he couldn’t get elected Dog Catcher here in Texas.....

... discriminated against him on the basis of his religion ...

There are no federal laws dealing with religious discrimination because the 1st Amendment prohibits Congress from making such laws. So unless Texas has a law which prohibits such discrimination, I'm not sure where Mr. James is coming from.

What am I overlooking?

Only pro-gay statements are protected by the courts, not anti-gay ones.

You have to read between the lines in the US constitution.

The founders must have thought that sodomy was like a church service.

James is a whiner. While in college he took under the table payments that helped get SMU the death penalty. He got Mike Leach fired at Texas Tech because his little boy was allegedly mistreated. Since they didn’t sign a contract I think being fired will be hard to prove.

Is he the “helicopter father” who cost the greatest football coach Texas Tech ever had his job because his son was asked to get out of the sun?

Let’s not make a Saint out of the fella. He did some hinkey things trying to get his son, who is failed by the way, onto the field at Texas Tech.

Not particularly noble, honest things either.

Craig James was not hired by Fox because of his very public role in the firing of Mike Leach at Texas Tech while he was an on air analyst with ESPN. No legitimate sports network will touch this guy with a ten foot pole. Now he wants to play the martyr with all this “Christian beliefs” nonsense.
