Uh, - - - - okay - - - - ?

Will the elected then name him or herself as the nominee?

Probably won’t even have a veep if the nominee that never was loses in an election where no candidates appeared on the ballot.

This digital world is a tad to fast for me!

We did something similar to Iowa in 2008 when the GOP held it in Minnesota, trying to win a rural midwestern state that they always come THISCLOSE to taking, but lose to the RATs.

As for Iowa, even though it never hosts the national conventions, both major parties kiss their butts every presidential election because they’re the first-in-the-nation primary state. I was in Ames, Iowa in 2007 for the straw poll, and it was a circus. Not only was every hotel in town booked, but so were all the hotels in the 3 surrounding towns.

I’m not sure where they would hold such a national convention though. Des Moines? Ceder Rapids? Even though pale compared to Minneapolis in ‘08. Iowa will likely never host a national convention because it’s like having one in Montana.

I love the suggestions is post #18 and #19 for things we could do in Denver to drive the RATs insane. The national convention is basically an infomercial, they should take advantage of it and make the RATs look bad.

The Forest of Compiegne should be on the list, until we find out who the nominee is.

Dallas, like in `84.
*****************************
I worked as a volunteer at that one, as did so many others of our chapter of the ASQ (a professional group; Am. Soc. for Quality).

The location was not the best, as Dallas lacked in transportation to and from hotels, bars, etc., at the time.

Dallas now has the DART mass transit system that covers most areas and a tremendous increase in hotel rooms, with lots of new late night/live entertainment areas near the hotels.

If the convention is held in June, then that’s before any real hot weather hits the DFW area... and we use a/c here in this area. ...........I vote for Dallas!

I think Stockton or San Bernardino would like the business.

“Reaganites—including your’s truly—shouting at Ford, “Four More Months” as the convention drew to a close. “

Hey, I should say thank you for 4 years of Jimmy Carter.

Got to be Dallas! Texas is the only state that will permit the convention.

The best place for the GOP to hold their convention: 1) Mexico City, Mexico; 2) Tijuana, Mexico (famed for its bars and hookers); 3) Ciudad Juarez, Mexico (more bars and hookers); 4) Havana, Cuba (get to know your inner communist dictator); 5) Caracas, Venezuela (prop up another communist dictator's regime). The Chamber of Commerce would really feel at home with all the aliens, not to mention all the illegal alien gardeners, nannies, and slave wage workers they could recruit. Or, how about mainland China where the U.S crony capitalists have plants?

Blame it on the rinos who narrowly kept out Reagan.

Blame on the same forces that gave us Romney.

Nightmare indeed!

It is almost comical watching the Cleveland TV news media making asses out of themselves. The chances of CLE getting the convention are slim and none. And Slim left town..!

Cincinnati is the site most likely to be a friendly setting. Columbus and Cleveland are definitely democrat territory. I’d bet phoenix and las vegas would be all about immigration reform....probably Dallas, too. Denver would be about libertarianism and pot.

If they want a spending/budget/jobs focus, then Cincinnati is ground zero.

Pardon my snark, but we have enough RINOs in Texas without flooding the city for a week. I'm on board with a Tea Party convention in Dallas, though.

How about Biloxi, MS? Even school teachers are OK with prayer/God/Guns/and Bibles...Plus, it would give moi a chance to experience some of it.

Can you even imagine an RNC Convention in heavily democrat territory of Downtown Cleveland?

The protests we’d see and literal riots in the streets! There is no way Cleveland police could handle this.

Course, from a democrat standpoint it’d be perfect to show the world how despised Republicans are, how out of touch they are, etc.

I read a thread on FR this week that Portland said they didn’t want the convention there (but, like the pitchforks & torches! ;-)
