Banner Health says an internal error has caused 50,000 copies of its 'Smart and Healthy' magazine to be delivered with social security numbers printed above the recipient's address.

"On the back of it, where the address is, is my name and my social security number for everybody to see." said Barbara Schaer, one of the 50,000 people throughout Maricopa and Pinal Counties that received the magazine. . . .

The hospital system says all affected will received an apology letter in the mail which also includes one year of free credit monitoring services. Those letters will be mailed out in the next week.

I’ll bet nobody thought to look. Who would suspect that this string of numbers on a label means anything?

If one looks into their wayback machine and examines the annals of the congresscitter-ional digest, I believe one can find the promises of the (sleazy, lying, slimy) dim-bulb-crats PROMISING that the SSN number would only be used for social security and NEVER for identification.

They lie, they cheat, they steal, they boink innocent women, they are scum, they are slime...and sooner or later we will have to look into professional liberal rodent exterminators.

That was going to be my comment: why do they have them anyway?

I refuse to give mine unless under extreme duress.

My Dr. office refuses to do my blood work without my ssn...when I told them it was illegal to use an ssn for identification they claimed it was for “tracking” but would not take just any 9digit number offered. One can only conclude it IS for identification.

I am now looking for another lab...

This is just the start of their gouging us until they OWN us. Or think they do...

True but there is no reason for them to even have your SSN.

The bought their list from a government agency.

See, it would’ve been OK if they’d printed “Not to be used for identification purposes.” at the bottom....

I’m wondering if a person couldn’t make up a phony SSN for everything but official i.e. IRS purposes?

At least if someone said your SSN didn’t match their records, you’d know the gummint sold it to them, which they shouldn’t be doing.

In about 1992 I saw my doc and they wanted my SS...I wouldn’t give it to them....was referred to a specialist for a procedure which I needed...and, I show up, and Voila! the Specialists office HAS MY SS#....they’ve GOT your number...or can get it elsewhere.

Same thing happened with a credit card I applied for. Didn't supply it (required information), card came through anyway.

Anytime you are asked for your SS number, ask them what job are they offering you.

NOBODY needs your number for any reason except employment!

I have done that in the past. Only drawback was that I wasn’t smart enough to keep remembering what numbers I used...

LOL

But I have done so and probably will play around and come up with some 9digit number to get what I want.

“Those letters will be mailed out in the next week.”

With SSNs plainly visible, no doubt! Idiots.
