REPORT: Ukrainian Warship Defects To Russia
Business Insider Australia ^

Posted on 03/02/2014 7:35:02 AM PST by kronos77

Ukrainian Navy flagship Hetman Sahaidachny has reportedly refused orders from Kiev and defected to the Russian side, a Russian senator has claimed in an interview with Ivestia Daily.

“Ukraine’s Navy flagship the Hetman Sahaidachny has come over to our side today. It has hung out the St Andrew’s flag,” Sen. Igor Morozov, a member of the committee on the international affairs, told Izvestia. “The crew has fulfilled the order by the chief commander of Ukraine’s armed forces Viktor Yanukovych.”

The ship recently took part in counter-piracy patrols with EU naval forces and was sailing towards its homeport of Sevastopol, Naval Today reports.

Ousted Ukraine President Yanukovych, under Kremlin protection in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, railed against those who forced him out of power in a press conference on Feb. 28, calling them “radical mobsters” who took over the country.

“I believe that the Ukrainian parliament is not legitimate,” he said.

This is a developing story, and this post will be updated as we learn more.

Thank You. The Ukrainians really don't have much to block a Russian take over then. obama needs to act quickly with sanctions or all is lost for them. I'm afraid they're doomed.

Does anyone know if the Ukrainians have nukes?

They don't.

That was one of the conditions of the Budapest Memorandum -- that Ukraine turn over all the nuclear weapons in its possession to Russia for de-activation and dismantling.

In return, Russia, the UK and the US would guarantee Ukraine's borders...

But Ukraine has still several Chernobyl style nuclear energy plants, which have become obsolete years ago, but weren’t dismantled yet ...

Ukraine agreed to give up its nukes in return for security assurances from Russia, the US and the UK. From wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapons_and_Ukraine
"When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, the newly independent Ukraine had on its territory what was the third largest strategic nuclear weapons arsenal in the world. It was larger than those of Britain, France, and China combined. On June 1, 1996 Ukraine became a non-nuclear nation when it sent the last of its 1,900 strategic nuclear warheads to Russia for dismantling.

The first shipment of nuclear weapons from Ukraine to Russia (by train) was in March 1994. In return for giving up its nuclear weapons, Ukraine, the United States of America, Russia, and the United Kingdom signed the 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances, pledging to respect Ukraine territorial integrity, a pledge that was arguably broken by Russia's 2014 invasion of Crimea."

Waiting today for the press to ask Susan Rice, Jon Kerry, Bubba and Hillary how that "Budapest Agreement" thing is working out ..... and how we intend to honor our part of that treaty

Of course not

That’s why they signed a security assistance memorandum with the US and the UK (Budapest Agreement, 1994)

The masters of the current buffoon in the White House have willfully and maliciously, through him, set out to tear down our former American economy, political structure, social and cultural norms and now our approach to Foreign affairs.

Deputy chief of staff of Ukrainian armed forces resigns

Lt. Gen. Yury Dumansky, deputy chief of staff of the Ukrainian armed forces, has announced his resignation.

“The Ukrainian armed forces are being dragged into a social conflict today. This may cause a massive loss of life, both among civilians and military servicemen. This is my personal position as an officer and a citizen of Ukraine.
I have decided to tender my resignation to prevent further escalation [of violence] and bloodshed,” he said.

The Commander of Ukraine’s Naval Forces had pledged his allegiance to the Crimean people. He made the announcement at a news-conference in the city of Sevastopol today.

It is not just Obama. It is the entire dim party and all the unelected agencies and courts. This is a massive governmental attack on US that was half or more of a century in the making. The pubbies should expose this every chance they get.

and how we intend to honor our part of that treaty

The U.S. Senate soundly rejected that agreement. We have no treaty with Ukraine in that regard.

and so

“diplomatic memorandums” have less utility than toilet paper

Countries being enticed to give up their weapons in exchange for security guarantees via a “diplomatic memorandum” should take note
