Putin Declares War
Wall Street Journal ^ | March 2, 2014 | Editorial

Posted on 03/02/2014 7:46:36 AM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

Vladimir Putin's Russia seized Ukraine's Crimean peninsula by force on the weekend and now has his sights on the rest of his Slavic neighbor. The brazen aggression brings the threat of war to the heart of Europe for the first time since the end of the Cold War. The question now is what President Obama and free Europe are going to do about it. --SNIP--

In the brutal world of global power politics, Ukraine is in particular a casualty of the Mr. Obama's failure to enforce his "red line" on Syria. When the leader of the world's only superpower issues a military ultimatum and then blinks, others notice. Adversaries and allies in Asia and the Middle East will be watching President Obama's response now. China has its eyes on Japanese islands. Iran is counting on U.S. weakness in nuclear talks.

The Ukrainians can't be left alone to face Russia, and the Kremlin's annexation of Crimea can't be allowed to stand. Ukraine must remain an independent state with its current borders intact, free to follow its democratic will to join the European Union and NATO if it desires. The world is full of revisionist powers and bad actors looking to exploit the opening created by Mr. Obama's retreat from global leadership, and Mr. Putin is the leading edge of what will quickly become a new world disorder.

I remember something called “manifest destiny” as a doctrine, the Indians ran right smack into that one.
Then there was this Monroe Doctrine.... Oh well, let Putin put missiles in Cuba. We need to mind our own business. After all that worked so well for the Wehrmacht Jews in the late ‘30’s.

Let’s give those Russians a stern lecture. That will put them in their place. Not since Jimmy Carter have we been this weak on the international scene.

We should do nothing.

I see you have been critisized for this view but I agree with you.

Putin should be acting in the best interests of Russia, not the best interests of ours or other countries.

Putin should grab the Crimea as a part of Russia, or help the Russian speaking Crimea become a puppet state for Russia if the Crimeans ae capable of running their own state.
We are out of the loop and talk and posturing is about all we got to put into this situation. - Tom

Why should he care about the Ukraine? He is too busy destroying the military and cutting off all funds in order to keep giving food stamps to “his people”.

Obama should at least make the gesture, though, if he is such a fervent believer in the UN.

Obama and everyone around him are totally useless hacks who count on being black or female or gay or simply progressivist to somehow make up for their complete lack of knowledge and background. After all, they’re so politically correct, how can anything they do not be welcomed with open arms?

Then we should be honest and say we will do nothing.

But our President is not honest.

I consider the existence of the United States as a positive good. The French were wise enough to do the right thing in 1781.

Let’s get a diversity map of where you live and start carving it up.

Great idea. So much for diversity working out in the Ukraine.

I agree. They always defer to the UN and now that something international is happening, they cower on the golf course.

For the guy not to attend the security briefing when the Sh!t is hitting the fan is unconscionable.

But also saved them from destruction as a nation in WWI and WWII.

If the French Revolution had been delayed, never occurred or took a different shape, I doubt WWI would have happened as it did.

Well I guess a second harsh letter to Putin is now called for. Putin better be careful because the third harsh letter will all be in CAPS.

Maybe we can dig up Lincoln and have him kill a couple hundred thousand easterners and burn their major cities to save their "Union".

He was good at that.

Might be tough though, he's buried under a couple of tons of concrete.
