Vladimir Putin's Russia seized Ukraine's Crimean peninsula by force on the weekend and now has his sights on the rest of his Slavic neighbor. The brazen aggression brings the threat of war to the heart of Europe for the first time since the end of the Cold War. The question now is what President Obama and free Europe are going to do about it. --SNIP--
In the brutal world of global power politics, Ukraine is in particular a casualty of the Mr. Obama's failure to enforce his "red line" on Syria. When the leader of the world's only superpower issues a military ultimatum and then blinks, others notice. Adversaries and allies in Asia and the Middle East will be watching President Obama's response now. China has its eyes on Japanese islands. Iran is counting on U.S. weakness in nuclear talks.
The Ukrainians can't be left alone to face Russia, and the Kremlin's annexation of Crimea can't be allowed to stand. Ukraine must remain an independent state with its current borders intact, free to follow its democratic will to join the European Union and NATO if it desires. The world is full of revisionist powers and bad actors looking to exploit the opening created by Mr. Obama's retreat from global leadership, and Mr. Putin is the leading edge of what will quickly become a new world disorder.

That is a dodge, You argue that America should relinquish the bargaining chip of World influence, leaving only brute force as a means to protect our interest. I maintain that in the end of the day that path leads to more bloodshed not less.

The world neighborhood is filled with Olicarcy, and bullies. Men who want mankind to exist as serf’s. Leaving this bad neighborhood to it’s own devices will only hasten the return to a “pre Magna Carta” age.
Excellent reminder of the real in realpolitik. And your point that it is historically Russian territory must not be downplayed by the West. Our State Dept is simply not up to the subtle and precarious negotiations required at this time.

Are you referring to the US or the Ukraine ? Hate to be the one to break this to you, but the US is already toast. The Southwest is overrun, the military is decimated, what few troops we have are bogged down and we have the most corrupt group of politicians in our history currently running the government. When WWIII ends, the US will be lucky to still hold DC.

After scanning through the news articles from last night, Putin did not really declare war on Ukraine ? The Western Media is just assuming he more or less has because of his actions ?

C’mon now, stop it. I know you know how the Constitution works. The Senate gives America’s word through the ratification process and nothing of the sort happened here. The President can sign all the bar napkins he wants, but until the Budapest Memorandum is ratified in the Senate, it means absolutely nothing.
