He wouldn’t have pulled this crap were RWR alive and in charge.

Heck, he wouldn’t have pulled this on Sarah Palin’s watch!

Or on the watch of Ted Cruz!

The Guardian (a Labour rag) also has decent live updates of world crisis situations, much like the one Jim posted from the (Tory) Telegraph. Also, my favorite site for fast aggregation is NewsNow.co.uk. The British point of view sometimes leaves much to be desired, but they are much better at what they do than the sorry media in this country.

I think Putin knew for sometime the measures he would be taking concerning Chimea and the Ukraine once the demonstrations there esculated..... Sochi was a conveniant cover while he prepared to protect his assets there...bases etc...... He’s really doing nothing more than what we would do if our bases were significant to us....additionally maintaining and securing the flow of oil through Ukraine.

I think all this talk of war and such is media pushed....the whole ordeal has taken on a huge “political” run for International Leaders as well. Each stepping up to the plate.

In the end Putin will maintain his bases and likely Chimea will go Russian...because they want to. Ukrainians really need to think why they have Chimea when all opposition to their move toward Nato comes from there for the most part.

However, Putin sees this as well and does not want more Nato nations on his doorstep. So he’ll bend some along the way.

Kerry refused to go on Fox Sunday show. It went on all the others. I would say he is a chicken. Someone on Fox might actually ask him a real question!

Thanks for sharing that link! I have many of the British newspapers bookmarked. You are right about the slant in many of them, but they do have stories we never see.

Putin is following the example of Hitler (see Austria and the Sudetenland, and also Poland, as a matter of fact): use minorities as an excuse to intervene for their protection. Putin is essentially a KGB barbarian. He could have lived peacefully with Ukraine, but he does not understand any source of wealth but conquest. The Russians love this, because this is in their primitive, barbarian nature — and (I sometimes think) most of the good Russians were eliminated in the revolution, the civil war, and the Gulags.

Our misfortune is that we have a dim-witted President, totally unqualified and unmotivated to protect American interests. Under Obama, the world has been spiraling downward toward war and conflict, because weakness does not make for peace.

If we do not replace the rulers in Washington, we are surely doomed, and the majority will deserve it.

Most recognize this is a match between Putin and Obama....Obama cannot stand alone nor state anything which Putin will consider any sort of threat...all Obama has is to use whatever leverage he has to get other nations to demand Russia pull back...in reality Putin will do so once Ukraine is stable with a Government comprising ALL the people not just those wanting to move toward Nato. IMO.

Obamas moves mean nothing, really, rather the EU and surrounding nations are determining how this goes with Putin...Obama is bringing up the rear as usual.

WASHINGTON: Russia is ready to help Ukraine as it seeks to stave off economic collapse, US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Friday after talking with his Russian counterpart.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated during a Friday phone call “that they are prepared to be engaged and be involved in helping to deal with the economic transition that needs to take place at this point,” Kerry told reporters.

The top US diplomat said he had stressed during the call with Lavrov the urgent need to focus on Ukraine’s economy as the IMF prepares to send a fact-finding mission to the cash-strapped country.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/russia-ready-to-help/1016102.html

The top US diplomat revealed earlier this week that Washington is preparing to offer Kiev a US$1 billion loan guarantee, and an as yet undecided amount of direct aid. The EU is also mulling a similar loan guarantee.

Ukraine owes US$13 billion in state debt payments this year - a massive sum in a country where state reserves have shrunk to less than US$18 billion.

And Kiev has suffered from Russia’s decision to freeze a US$15 billion dollar bailout package after a first US$3 billion tranche was used up.

I don’t buy all that crap about Putin....he’s still a thug but how he’s conducting himself on the International Stage overall does not attest to the old Russian tactics. All you need to do is follow who he’s been in contact with before and since he made his moves to protect his bases in Chimea and establish a firm hand in securing the areas he could where there would not be much resistance.

Putin had a right to protect his bases there...and stabilize Ukraine as much as possible...who else would go in? Europe wouldn’t and neither would the U.S. The idea was that once the protestors outed the Pres. to prevent the “creeps” fast organizing to do their deeds in Ukraine....and they were organizing. Including Muslim factions etc.

Nobody under estimates how far Putin will go if he has to...but Europe isn’t about to cut off their oil stream from Russia....and as we all see the International community is mostly about “talking” because they indirectly support Putins military “holding down the fort” if you will.

The only way Ukraine can go Nato is if Ukraine splits....those who want to join Nato want their cake and eat it too....they don’t want to sacrifice half their country to get what they want...and the Western half isn’t about ready to disengage entirely from Russia.

So it’s basically still, and will remain a divided country.
