Gay activists have met their match with Muslim barbers
Toronto Sun ^ | 3/2/14 | Ezra Levant

So a lesbian walks into a Muslim barbershop, and asks for a “businessmen’s haircut”.

It sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it really happened, and now a government agency called the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario will hear her complaint.

Faith McGregor is the lesbian who doesn’t like the girly cuts that they do at a salon. She wants the boy’s hairdo.

Omar Mahrouk is the owner of the Terminal Barber Shop in Toronto. He follows Shariah law, so he thinks women have cooties. As Mahrouk and the other barbers there say, they don’t believe in touching women other than their own wives.

But that’s what multiculturalism and unlimited immigration from illiberal countries means. A central pillar of many immigrant cultures is the second-class citizenship of women and gays.

So if we now believe in multiculturalism, and that our Canadian culture of tolerance isn’t any better than the Shariah culture of sex crimes and gender apartheid, who are we to complain when Omar Mahrouk takes us up on our promise that he can continue to practise his culture — lesbian haircuts be damned?

He’s not the one who passed the Multiculturalism Act, and invited in hundreds of thousands of immigrants with medieval attitudes towards women and gays and Jews, etc. We did.

Mahrouk’s view is illiberal. But in Canada we believe in property rights and freedom of association — and in this case, freedom of religion, too.

But McGregor ran to the Human Rights Tribunal and demanded that Mahrouk give her a haircut.

In the past, human rights commissions have been a great ally to gay activists. Because, traditionally, gay activists have complained against Christians. And white Christians are the one ethnic identity group that human rights commissions don’t value, and that multiculturalism doesn’t include.

When protected classes collide...

***
Gotta love it.

As for needing to go to a barber for a guy’s cut, I call baloney. I am a woman, and I happen to know that most hair salons can accommodate both male and female. As a matter of fact, I have been in the beauty salon in my small town when women have come in for a manly cut.

Ghastly, IMO. Sure, it is a lot easier to take care of, but why would a normal woman want to look like a man?

It will all come down to which of these protected classes is deemed most antithetical to traditional, Western culture. That is the one that the leftists will champion.

Good point.

Thanks for posting the link to the follow-up story. The most puzzling thing, though, is how the mohammedan could have known that that thing was not a male.

I am surprised we haven’t seen more incidents between gays and Muslims in US —media is probably covering it up —as they do everything else. There is a gay local paper in NYC and when I last looked at it about 4-5 years ago it did cover Muslim persecution of gays in Mid East, but most gays follow liberal line even when opposed to their interest.

Next time Rush goes on vacation, he should get this guy to sub.

That would be fantastic but actually, Ezra has his own show called The Source. It's quite good and I suspect that the show plus his newspaper column and public appearances makes him one very busy guy.... http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/shows/our-shows.html

Some friends and I were discussing the larger question of conscience rights yesterday, and one of the least incisive thinkers started to blame it all on those who want a “secular society.” She had it exactly backwards. Public life needs to be secular in order to be as fair as possible to everyone. We can’t have public recognition of religion for me but not for thee.

Those who are familiar with what I have written on FR over the years (just passed my 14th anniversary) know that I have been saying this for a long time, much to the discomfort of many on this forum. I am not an atheist. On the contrary, a devout Christian. But I see that we cannot let the country devolve into “I won’t bake your cake” and “I won’t cut your hair.” We can’t go back to segregated lunch counters either. We already fought this battle.

The only other alternative is for people to form completely private communities that are large enough to sustain businesses. That will take a while, but I don’t see any other way.

Best line of the day, so far.

I’ll chalk it up as taking a hit for the team.

Seriously, though, if you saw that photo out of context, you would say without question that it is a man.

Bravo to the witty editorialist. Using these kangaroo court “human rights commissions”, it may turn into a case of the cockroaches eating the bedbugs.

Imagine the glee of Muslim mobs invading and violently cleaning out gay bars?

I first thought the photo was of Piers Morgan’s brother. As many commenters pointed out she could have gone to virtually any other barber in the city without a problem. But the money line was by MacGregor “He had alot more to lose than I did” The little weasel.

Disney Decides to Discriminate Against Boy Scouts

Posted 1 hour ago by Paul Breen Filed under 1st Amendment, Business

It seems that only some people can discriminate. The multi-billion-dollar “Walt Disney Company has notified the Boy Scouts of America that it will withdraw all funding from the organization beginning 2015 unless the BSA overturns its policy of not allowing openly gay members to be leaders.”

Some will say that this is different from not providing service to people or groups that promote behaviors and viewpoints that are offensive since Disney’s giving is voluntary. But isn’t purchasing photography, cakes, and printing also voluntary? No one is forcing people to choose one company over others.

If Disney is free to do what it wants with its money based on its beliefs, then why should other business owners be forced to support beliefs they disagree with?

The Human Rights Tribunal is going to deny a hearing on this case.

They might be evil, but they aren’t so stupid as to get entangled in a no-win decision.

Why not? Going back to the principle that a private entity, including a business, may choose who to interact with, and who NOT to interact with, would eliminate a lot of problems.
