Ukraine: Russia Delivers 'Assault Storm' Deadline

Russia's fleet has given Ukrainian forces in Crimea until 3am to surrender or face a military assault, according to Interfax.
The ultimatum, from the commander of Russia's Black Sea Fleet Alexander Vitko, has a base in Crimea where Russian forces are now in control.
According to the agency, it reads: "If they do not surrender before 5am (3am GMT) tomorrow, a real assault will be started against units and divisions of the armed forces across Crimea."
It comes as Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev discussed the situation in Ukraine with US Vice President Joe Biden by telephone on Monday.
Mr Medvedev "declared that it is necessary to protect the interests of all Ukrainian citizens, including residents of Crimea, and citizens of Russia who are located in Ukraine......

The Russians are setting up an escalation. Not shooting but something like cutting off water and power to the Ukrainian bases.

This does not compare with the Mexican - American war. The Ukrainian Army has not assaulted a Russian outpost or base. The Mexican-American war was started by a Mexican Army attack on a US outpost. They lost and agreed to giving up territory to settle it. Otherwise Mexico would be a bunch of US states as the US Army occupied most of north and central Mexico at the time. That is the “territorial expansion” that occurred in the Mexican - American war.

When you are winning, you keep pushing. You only stop when you outrun your support. Crimea would be a great support base for any further Russian expansion.
The newest incarnation of the term is “hyperwar”. Iraq War 2 was a hyperwar insofar as it was, for most practical purposes, over in 3 days flat (with the bulk of the effort done within hours): all infrastructure shut down, regime removed, troops in place, conquest complete. (_That_ war was over in days. There power vacuum that followed took years to fill, a separate civil war which most confuse with it.)

What is there to assault in the Crimea? I think that Ukraine has one infantry brigade and no armor in that region, backed up by perhaps one squadron of aircraft. It's a pretty "safe" bet by the Russians as not much is going to challenge them.
Sounds like disinformation, considering this: A source in the Ukrainian defence ministry has told the Guardian’s, Shaun Walker, in Crimea, that he has heard nothing about an ultimatum that has reportedly been posed to Ukrainian forces in the region to surrender before 3am GMT or face an assault.
I'll wait until Russia starts to tally targets destroyed, being a veteran of the Tonkin Gulf incident.
What about the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait in 1990 due to theft of Iraqi oil through directional drilling? The difference? Realpolitik: Russia has the Bomb and Iraq didn’t.
