Native Americans vow a last stand to block Keystone XL oil pipeline
Washington Post ^ | 03/03/2013 | Rob Hotakainen,

Faith Spotted Eagle figures that building a crude oil pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast would bring little to Indian Country besides more crime and dirty water, but she doubts that Native Americans will ever be able to get the U.S. government to block the $7 billion project.

“There is no way for Native people to say no — there never has been,” said Spotted Eagle, 65, a Yankton Sioux tribal elder from Lake Andes, S.D. “Our history has caused us not to be optimistic. . . . When you have capitalism, you have to have an underclass — and we’re the underclass.”

Opponents may be down after a State Department study found that the proposed Keystone XL pipeline would not contribute to global warming. But they haven’t abandoned their goal of killing what some call the “black snake.”

In South Dakota, home to some of the nation’s poorest American Indians, tribes are preparing for nonviolent battle with “resistance training” aimed at TransCanada, the company that wants to develop the 1,700-mile pipeline.

Although organizers said they want to keep their strategy a secret, they’re considering vigils, civil disobedience and blockades to thwart the moving of construction equipment and the delivery of materials.

When you have capitalism, you have to have an underclass

Well, no, or at least not the America black and Indian version.

Some forms of capitalism thrive on exploiting an underclass, basically stealing the value of their labor. The pre-war South springs to mind.

The present underclass, however, produces nothing except whining, so its hard to see how keeping them in poverty is a goal of any capitalists.

Economically speaking, America would be a lot better off tomorrow if the underclass disappeared tonight.

It's government that needs an underclass, not capitalism.

Time to trot out another liberal mascot — the poor, oppressed Red Man. Maybe they can get Iron Eyes Cody to shed a tear ...

There are no Native Americans. The DNA tests show they came through Siberia from Germany. They are Europeans. And they are greedy and selfish Europeans who tried to keep their brothers and sisters from Europe out of the Americas. Shame on them.

those Indians need to get off their “reservations” and off their collective asses and get jobs in the energy industry...they are right on topof it and too damned lazy to take advantage of it......on the other hand, as long as we are already sending all of them a check, why should they work??

The government isn’t building this. Private industry is. All the government is doing is standing in the way.

Since they are protesting a pipeline that will benefit pretty much everyone in the state with jobs for the unemployed, and customers for small businesses, it doesn’t take a genius to see that South Dakota is not only home to some of the poorest American Indians, but some of the most clueless...

Well, it has worked for those on the government/democrat plantation in the cities for years, so why shouldn’t they just do the same?

Then sit around and whine some more and drink yourself into a stupor. That'll help you get out from under. /S

False. Capitalism has nothing to do with creating an underclass. The vast majority of people who are in the so called “underclass” are there voluntarily.

Well said.
Alcohol is the reason.
I worked for a guy that was building some pole barns on the Pine Ridge indian reservation and he had to hire some of the locals.
When they came to work they just sat under a tree and watch the work going on. The monday after payday he had to get some different people to sit under the tree
.

They are poor for a reason and it ain’t because they lack opportunity.”.......

Note on the map above EXACTLY how many of the existing pipelines go through So. Dakota. Would serve them right if oil was found on their deeded land with no way to move it out of there. Stupidity in the making.
