Ratings for the Academy Awards telecast in the nation's biggest television markets are up 7 percent over last year.

The Nielsen company said Monday that New York, Kansas City, Mo., and Chicago were the strongest markets for Sunday's telecast, where "12 Years a Slave" won the Academy Award for best picture.

Nielsen's estimate for how many people actually watched the show was expected later Monday. The Oscars are frequently the second most-watched television program of the year after the Super Bowl, with viewership topping 40 million people last year.

Is “Oscars” a new reality show?

Nothing like bubble loving celebs congratulating themselves over and over again.

I continue to be amazed at the wide and deep influence of Hollywood on US society. I don’t understand why, but I do understand it is probably 95% negative.

Watched my favorite old movies. None of today’s garbage can compare with the classics.

Oscars:

they used to be about entertaining movies....now they are about politically correct movies that nobody goes to see. (I rarely go to movies anyway but when I do, the ones I like, are never celebrated in the Oscars)
I haven’t wasted my time with them for about 20 years....

I didn’t watch it, and haven’t in decades, BUT I was interested this year.

I wanted to know if Frozen would win best song for Let It Go. But I just waited and read the articles to see.

I’m becoming more and more removed from pop culture. That’s ok by me.

No way the ratings are up 7% for watching the complete show.

Don’t know what memo Ellen got but, she seemed subdued and lost.

The show was boring and that was the comment from friends who were looking forward to her usual comedic talent.

Most of us got up during the show and found other things to do.

Hosted by a big flaming man-hating homosexual? I won’t give her the time to watch her and wait for her to trash America.

Altho I did hear that they were rather tame last night. Anyway, I’ve no interest in watching prom nite in the liberal wasteland.

So did we...but would switch at the commercials to see what was up.
Every time we went there, DeGenerate was on, once with the Glinda hat on, and we couldn’t watch anymore. Do you ever remember Hope or even Crystal having to stoop to props and schtick to get laughs?
Another prime example of dumbing down....

Watched it. Too cold in Central Tx. To do anything outside. Cold foggy rain and temps into low 20’s. Kinda liked Gravity.
