Discussion Thread: Texas Primary Today (3-4-14) ..first hand reports, observations, comments..
one man's opinion...

Posted on 03/04/2014 7:00:48 AM PST by ken5050

I was hoping one of the Texas FReepers would start a thread, but didn't see one. The Texas primary is today..several interesting races, but the BIG ONE involves Cornyn. When you vote...let us know what you heard/saw? What's the weather like down there?

I DON’T know the answer. Gov. Gregg Abbott does, maybe he’ll lay it all out in time.

We needed a national TEA groups to endorse early...and we didn’t get that. It’ll take a miracle to pull off an upset over Cornhole.

“a candidate whose name is to appear on the ballot...”

That phrase means the candidate may withdraw BEFORE the ballots are printed and the name won’t appear. However, there is a date by which ballots must be printed and a candidate withdrawing after that date, cannot remove the name from the ballot so that name will get votes.

That is what happened to our county judge candidate who died. It was AFTER the ballots were printed, so the name could not be removed.

Polls are still open in El Paso (so what) and will stay open in Travis Cty for an extra 2 hours.

I got everyone I could to vote against Cornyn today.
I voted in Wichita Falls around 5:45, and there were probably twenty people voting in the GOP primary line.
Took me 10 minutes.
Nobody in the donkey line.

That is the link to use - there is only one for election results, click submit if you want state results, not county result.

Our County Judge died recently. He is still on the ballot. I wonder if anyone will vote for him.

Early results are already tabulated so the early vote should go up on that SOS link soon.

It's less than 1% of the precincts reporting. Take a few deep breaths.

Nobody in the donkey line.

Here in the TX Hill Country where most local races are between Republicans, the Donkeys I know were voting it the Republican Primary. I am sure they voted for the least electable Republicans in the State races.

Polls are still open in El Paso (so what) and will stay open in Travis Cty for an extra 2 hours.

(Travis Co) Ballots cast after 7 p.m., but before the polls close, will be provisional, in accordance with Texas election laws. The votes will be included in the final tally, but results from the provisional ballots will not be included in Tuesday’s unofficial voting totals.

The communications director for the Travis County Republican Party, Andy Hogue, released this statement:

“Later hours may increase turnout among last-minute voters — it might prove convenient for those with lengthy evening commutes. But this is causing some headaches for our Precinct Chairmen and Election Judges who have to arrange for later hours at the community centers, businesses, and church buildings they’re meeting at.There are three of us at TCRP headquarters answering questions from our election workers and precinct chairs. Our phone has been ringing off the hook all day.
We’re keeping track of changing Precinct Convention locations at http://www.tcrp.org.”;

The Travis County Democrats are also reacting. Executive Director JD Gins released this statement to KXAN News:
“We have been monitoring the developments and now with the ruling the polls will stay open until 9pm and the clear weather, the TCDP believes almost everyone should have a chance to vote. With the 4 hour delay, the Democratic Party felt strongly there should at least be a two hour extension, which Judge Livingston granted. Since the polls have opened turnout has been strong, and if it keeps up at this pace we will have higher than average turnout between Early Voting and Election Day. The Democratic Party is happy the extension of voting hours and hopes everyone will get out and vote if they have not done so already, and reminds voters they can vote at any election polling location that is convenient for them.”

That’s been my greatest fear. Cornyn depending on vote fraud, anything to save his hide.

I am sure they [Democrats] voted for the least electable Republicans in the State races.

Which won't help them a whit -- as there isn't a single Democrat which is electable in any state-wide race.
