BREAKING: Facebook Considering Banning Gun Related Pages
The Truth About Guns ^

Posted on 03/04/2014 7:00:48 AM PST by Red in Blue PA

Gun control is losing steam. After doing their best to use the tragedy in Newtown to limit the constitutional rights of American citizens when it comes to owning and using guns, the millions of dollars and countless hours of campaigning led to exactly nothing happening on the national level and very little on the state level. Even those changes that did squeak through are being fought tooth and nail in the judicial system, and gun control advocates are quickly losing ground there as well. The reason is obvious: gun owners are well organized, engaged, and motivated. So naturally the next step for gun control advocates is to pressure Facebook into banning gun related pages — which they’re doing.

From VentureBeat:

Facebook may announce company policy changes for gun-related pages in the coming weeks, VentureBeat has learned.

The social network has been under pressure from the powerful Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the Moms Demand Action civic group to ban gun-themed fan pages on the site.

Sources close to the conversations told VentureBeat, “Talks are progressing. The discussions are ongoing; there have been positive developments.”

Remember, folks, that Alinsky can cut both ways.

Make FB play by it’s own rules. And keep in mind that FB doesn’t have the staff to go checking on all pages and instead relies on automation.

So 1) start posting pro-gun stuff all over the place, but especially on Liberal pages. 2) Hit the “abuse” button on any/all pro gun control pages.

The automation will do the rest, issuing warnings, shutting down pages, blocking accounts and generally creating a real mess that FB will have to employ actual HUMANS ( well paid ones at that) to clean up.

How much longer for what?

We can no longer be the silent majority. It doesn’t work anymore. We need to get dirty and use the same damn tactics against them that they have used on us for decades. You can either complain about the evils of social media and concede it to their side, or use that media to get our message out to those who are on the fence.

Next will be anyone who is deemed a “denier” of “manmade climate change”. Just like Reddit and the LA Slimes.

An extensive investigation by VentureBeat last week revealed that adults and children were making arrangements to buy, sell, and trade guns through the many Facebook fan pages devoted to guns and the people who use them, sometimes in violation of federal and state gun laws.

That's why they're even thinking about doing this. Given the amount of burdensome and complicated (and sometimes contradictory) state & federal gun laws, these pages expose Facebook to a fair amount of legal uncertainty. Facebook's actions (if they do it) are wrong, but the real issue here is the unconstitutional legal mess that is driving them to do it.

Of course, the principled position for Facebook would be to fight against these laws (and against any hypothetical allegations made against Facebook), but when has the company ever been principled?

Yes,like that college a about a week ago where a conservative was scheduled to speak and the libs made a fuss because they didn’t want anyone on campus who didn’t believe in free speech. The irony of that was lost on them.

It's not even a kettle/pot situation. It's not like conservatives are going around trying to keep idiots from giving speeches to the like-"minded".

I looked in the article and didn’t see Zuckerberg’s words anywhere so this could be another hoax about Facebook. The jealousy on Facebook is huge. Anytime there is a successful company, it brings out the haters. I feel sorry for Zuckerberg having to put up with this crap all the time. The lies against Facebook are enormous.

A typical non-facebook person is someone who in high school could not get a date and DEFINITELY never went to the Prom. That is a fact.

I have three teenage daughters - none of whom have used fb in two years. They use twitter, instagram, and group texting.

None of the middle school, high school and college kids I know have a FB. They did some years ago but stopped. They use twitter, group twitter and instagram. The exception is one girl that is my daughter’s friend.. she does have a FB. She told me she only keeps it so she can keep in touch with her grandmother (lives in Florida).

I am a dog breeder of a relatively rare breed that is also bred in Iceland and Scandinavia and some other European countries. I had been leery of FB but we have a big breed community on FB, and we have all gotten to know each other, exchanged information and support, and arranged global breedings and imports. It is a huge advantage for the breed. There are many “interest groups” like this on FB, which is ideal for easy sharing of comments, photos and feedback in real time. Communications related to HB/SB76 school tax elimination efforts in Pennsylvania have been aided by the quick and responsive features of FB. Organizations like FEE and Acton Institute, my two favorite non-profits, have active and informative FB pages, sharing excellent material. FB is a tool, and it can be used effectively for many interests which contribute positively to our lives.

I guess this means all of the DoD and FLEA/State/Local FB pages will be taken down since they display evil guns on a regular basis.....yeah, right.

Or for people like me who have family and friends far and wide and like to keep in touch with them. There is that part. Don’t paint with too broad a brush FRiend.

I joined FB briefly to see what a few friends and relatives were doing. I quickly concluded it was a silly waste of time. After Emperor FUBO was re-elected, I saw no point of advertising who my contacts were [much less sharing gun information] inside a Communist State, so I dumped FB. I didn’t give up much.

I opened an account on Facebook initially because my new smart phone had an icon for it. Forgot about it for months. Then one day, I was talking to one of my old high school buddies, who was telling me about an old car he was restoring.

He tells me he has documented the whole restoration on Facebook, and off I went!

Like Cuban Leaf, I have used it for band stuff. I keep up with family and old friends that live far away. My family name is unique enough that if you have the same last name, you gotta be related to me. I had an aunt and uncle that lived in Buffalo, NY; I vaguely remember meeting them once or twice when they came to visit. Apparently, they and their offspring have been very prolific, and I was amazed to find out that an entire branch of the family now exists there, thanks to Facebook.

I’ve heard from many of my grade school and high school classmates. A few of them, I have not seen or heard from since the day we graduated high school. Now we are all grey with grandkids (proud to say that I still have a full head of hair, unlike some of them!).

Some of them are obvious libs, and its fun to torment them with posts involving conservative candidates, NRA/2nd Amendment stuff, etc.

Lastly, there are groups on Facebook for just about any interest you could possibly imagine, and I seem to have a penchant for collecting oddball hobbies. Yeah, I belong to a number of specific Forums on the internet, but have received good info from Facebook too, it is a good source of information for me.

As an old fart, I am proud that I have stayed technologically literate, and believe in leveraging new technology to my advantage. I wouldn’t know half as much as I do if I didn’t read Free Republic once in a while, and I do find Facebook useful, although I have torn loyalties when I hear what they support.
