An Egyptian court decided on Tuesday to ban all activities of Palestinian Hamas movement and confiscate its headquarters in Cairo, state-run Ahram website reported.
A lawsuit was filed against the movement to ban its activities and designate it as a terrorist group, after the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last July.
Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood and is well known for its support to the group, from which Morsi hails.
More than 60 members of the group are facing trial on jailbreak charges, along with Morsi and top leaders of Brotherhood.
They are accused of facilitating storming three prisons, killing policemen and helping hundreds including terrorists to flee during the early days of the 2011 revolt that ousted former president Hosni Mubarak.
Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahhar has denied that his movement has offices or conducts any activities in Egypt. "The verdict is useless as no Hamas headquarters or activities exist in Egypt," Zahhar told Xinhua.
Only deputy head of Hamas Political Bureau Moussa Abu Marzouk privately rents his villa in a Cairo western suburb under the supervision of the Egyptian authorities, added Zahhar.
The Judicial authority in Egypt enjoys full sovereignty, Egypt' s foreign minister Nabil Fahmy said, noting the reconciliation file has not been settled yet.
"We will host members of rival Hamas and Fatah movements to revive the reconciliation process," Fahmy added.
Another Egyptian court on Tuesday decided to postpone another case filed by some lawyers to prevent Hamas members for entering Egypt or even pass through the Egyptian territories.
The lawyers accused members from the Palestinian group of murdering 16 soldiers in the North Sinai city of Rafah in August 2013.

I’m perplexed, I thought Muslims approved of Hamas because the hate us and are at war with us.....Strange.

They’re a Muslim Brotherhood offshoot. Obama likes the Brotherhood, they’re a threat to Egypt. So many Arab/Muslim sects/tribes. Frequently hate each other more than us. A talented leader could use that to advance our interests. For the next couple years, as likely as my dogs learning to use and flush a toilet.
