Posted on 03/05/2014 1:31:49 PM PST by PaulCruz2016
The Senates failure to confirm Debo Adegbile to lead the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice is a travesty based on wildly unfair character attacks against a good and qualified public servant. Mr. Adegbiles qualifications are impeccable. He represents the best of the legal profession, with wide-ranging experience, and the deep respect of those with whom he has worked. His unwavering dedication to protecting every Americans civil and Constitutional rights under the law including voting rights could not be more important right now. And Mr. Adegbiles personal story rising from adversity to become someone who President Bushs Solicitor General referred to as one of the nations most capable litigators is a story that proves what America has been and can be for people who work hard and play by the rules. As a lawyer, Mr. Adgebile has played by the rules. And now, Washington politics have used the rules against him. The fact that his nomination was defeated solely based on his legal representation of a defendant runs contrary to a fundamental principle of our system of justice and those who voted against his nomination denied the American people an outstanding public servant.
“President Bushs Solicitor General”
Is he the guy who defended DC in the Heller case?
A few Dems are going to get blackmailed.
So now Bush is good? This bunch is a travesty.
To be fair to him, Arlen Specter sprung a murderer and then spent two decades sitting in the US Senate.
Oh noes, who will sue states for passing voter ID laws?
Just why can’t Obama accept he lost this?
His rejection is Bush’s fault!
Post of the day!!! Heck of the year!
Yep. Paul Clement.
Everything is “In yo face, chump!” with this guy. This isn’t done yet, I think. Next recess.
I would rather he was voted down for some other reason other than defending a cop killer. I haven’t been following the facts.
So what? Everybody is entitled to a legal defense. Either the best they can buy, or the best the state can provide or the best that just volunteer.
I don’t care if he killed 30 cops and ate all their livers with Fava Beans and a Chianti, we shouldn’t be taking this against the lawyer who was hired, appointed, volunteered or otherwise became the defense lawyer.
Obama lose? Get real! I figure Dear Leader will just appoint Debo Adegbile anyway. Im president I can do what I want!
a good and qualified public servant
Id hate to see his idea of a bad one...
F U, Barry. You belong in a cell with Jamal
As a lawyer, Mr. Adgebile has played by the rules. And now, Washington politics have used the rules against him.
OK well I would think that someone who “has played by the rules” would expect others to do the same...
——just why cant Obama accept he lost this?——
He has a narrcisstic personality disorder ....they think if they lost a battle, someone cheated or bent the rules....
There is no way possible at least in his mind, that he picked a bad nominee....
Hussein didn’t get the NSA memo?
Congress knows he’s a fraud (forged BC; 7 stolen SSNs), and once the public finds out from Arpaio/Zullo’s (Spring 2014) press conference, the jig is up.
If he had a son he would be defended by Debo Adegbile .
black, black everywhere....don’t whites have civil rights, too
It was not a failure, they just told yhou NO.
Only if you are a white democrat.
Well remember that Reagan gave (with)Holder his first federal appointment. This affirmative action produces some bad outcomes.
I don’t care if the guy rescues puppies.
He has tried for years to free cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.
That alone means he should NEVER have a position of authority over Americans!
What next, will Obama appoint lawyers who defended Citizens United to DOJ civil rights division...they followed the rules too!
The fact that his nomination was defeated solely based on his legal representation of a defendant runs contrary to a fundamental principle of our system of justice
Nonsense. That you tried to have a man appointed that spent years trying to free the most hated criminal in American jails, a multiple times convicted Cop Killer, because that man is black, was a slap in the face to ALL AMERICANS...
He wasn’t actually defending Abu-Jamal. The original conviction occurred in 1982. In 2009, Adegbile filed an amicus curiae brief with the United States Supreme Court in 2009, arguing that the conviction was invalid because of racial discrimination in jury selection.
Remember: Obama lies.
The guy voluntarily went to bat for the cop killer. Nobody hired him if I remember correctly.
I’ve read up on the case and the appeals.
It seems as if both Debo Adegbile and Mumia Abu-Jamal are both extremely well connected Leftists, and I would gather that a lot of lobbying had been going around for Mumia — based on his ‘in prison’ achievements — which seem to be more leftist drivel.
I wouldn’t have voted for Debo Adegbile either, but just because of his leftist leanings and one sided civil rights views. But the fact that he did Lawyerly work (as a lawyer I may add) would have never been a condideration.
The Thousand Angry Irishmen argument — Some day you or somebody you’re close to may be charged with some crime and have ‘A thousand Angry Irishmen’ calling for your head.
Are you sure it’s just not his name? I think it’s just because of his name.
Ah, go cry to your mommy, dear leader.
I don’t understand why we need a “Civil Rights Division” under the Department of Justice.
Are we not men? We are Debo!
