Shocker: IRS estimates cheapest Obamacare plan $20k per family in 2016

In an official document, the Internal Revenue Service, the enforcer of Obamacare’s mandates, is estimating that the cheapest Obamacare plan (the Bronze level of coverage) will cost a family of four $20,000 per year. Matt Cover of CNS News writes:

The IRS's assumption that the cheapest plan for a family will cost $20,000 per year is found in examples the IRS gives to help people understand how to calculate the penalty they will need to pay the government if they do not buy a mandated health plan.

The examples point to families of four and families of five, both of which the IRS expects in its assumptions to pay a minimum of $20,000 per year for a bronze plan.

“The annual national average bronze plan premium for a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) is $20,000,” the regulation says.

Bronze will be the lowest tier health-insurance plan available under Obamacare--after Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Under the law, the penalty for not buying health insurance is supposed to be capped at either the annual average Bronze premium, 2.5 percent of taxable income, or $2,085.00 per family in 2016.

An MRI costs $1500. If you don't meet your deductible you are responsible for the entire amount. What if you only make 10 bucks an hour? $1500 is one hell of a house payment, or three apartment payments, or six car payments.

I remember the days before the government got involved and doctors charged what they needed to for themselves, before the price of medical care got unnecessarily inflated. I could usually get out of the doctor's office only paying $45. Yeah, my entire checkup was what today is a co-pay under Obama.

“I’m covered!” sez all the actors in the commercials.”””

And they say: The GOVERNMENT will pay part of my premium.

I cannot imagine how many of those actors will shill for the lies in this program.

$120,000 x 8% = $9600.

Wonder if H & J will figure out that they would be better off to just bank that money and pay for their own health care.

If the premiums on the exchange are more than 8% of your income then no penalty. H&J need to get informed.

And the fact that with health care costing so much, this is a mortgage payment without the house. so we force families to pay an amount equal or above a mortgage payment, then we worry that nobody is buying houses.

Why isn’t anybody pointing out this fact?

Therein lies our problem. We certainly cannot expect the media to do it, we know they won't. So, the only alternative is to somehow get the conservatives to pony up the money to buy airtime and newspaper ads...that is, the media will take them. My guess is that they will since they're bleeding from reduced revenue nowadays.

if you only make 10/hour, much of that 1500 mri is subsidized, especially if you have no insurance and tell them such.

in any market, prices will rise to absorb any extra monies allocated to that market. health care cost in the us started to skyrocket when the federal government started shoveling our cash into it. and whenever the costs got out of hand, their solution would always be to increase funding. hence rising costs.

But what’s important is Sandra Fluck gets free birth control. We keep losing sight of what is important.

I would hope only bronze plans qualify for subsidy.

We had the best healthcare system in the world; and these idiots decided to destroy it.
Wars have damaged countries in greater ways than this administration has damaged this nation.

Actually, I thought in order to get a subsidy, you had to buy at least a silver plan? Who the hell knows anymore?

While common sense is not part of any government program, shouldn’t subsidies (if they exist) be for the basics?

It looks like subsidy amounts were calculated from limiting a dollar payout based upon a silver plan. But that is just a calculation method for a dollar amount.

The individual then selects bronze, silver, gold plan. The same dollar amount subsidy is applied and they pay the difference.

So then net result is less percent subsidy for premium plans, more percent subsidy for lessor plans, same dollar subsidy in all case.

http://www.valuepenguin.com/understanding-aca-subsidies

For the single person, if the benchmark silver plan cost $300 a month in premiums, the person would still only be responsible for $193 dollars a month and receive a subsidy for the difference of $107 dollars. The consumer could even opt to buy a cheaper Bronze plan or a more expensive option, and apply the same $107 dollar subsidy. (Note: If the cheaper plan actually costs less than $107 dollars a month, they would not receive the difference and lose the remainder of the subsidy)

I think your talking about the cost sharing aspect of it. People below $250 FPL can get get additional discounts on office visits and drugs in the silver plan..

And it will be totally unexpected® that businesses that depend on consumers having $$ for discretionary spending start announcing layoffs, store and restaurant closures, and bankruptcies.
I didn’t know the word “unexpected” was copyrighted... :)
It was a typo. It should read,

Totally Unexpected®

The deductibles are so high, you’re just as well to not even have insurance, except for the worst kind of scenarios.

Which is why they had to get rid of catastrophic insurance plans with relatively low premiums. Everyone would be choosing those and not funding the healthcare payouts for people with pre-existing conditions and elderly folk in declining health.

RE: What if you only make 10 bucks an hour?

This is my son's first job out of college. He is not going on medicaid. We will help him, but it just seems the gov has it all figured out how to get more people beholden to them.

Obama is a real @$$.
