What astonishes me is how John Cornyn ranks. He's tenth out of all 45. We Texans know that he's not a true Conservative. The numbers for Ted Cruz make sense but I really have to question the methodology that ranks Cornyn so high.

“What astonishes me is how John Cornyn ranks. He’s tenth out of all 45. We Texans know that he’s not a true Conservative. The numbers for Ted Cruz make sense but I really have to question the methodology that ranks Cornyn so high.”

The methodology is that Cornyn and McConnell carefully vote conservative to fool their constituents while they undermine conservatism behind the scenes, by endorsing moderates, whipping votes for cloture to help democrats, etc.

These ratings mean nothing. It’s one vote that counts. It could be voting to raise the debt limit. It could be immigration. It could be to confirm Kerry as SOS and Hagel as SOD.

Thanks very much for a very clear and logical explanation. Do you think it might also work in reverse? In other words, are there those on the list with lower overall scores but are, in reality, genuinely Conservative?

No. Are you kidding? They’re not in leadership positions. They don’t have to try to fake it.

No. Are you kidding?

I sincerely apologize for being so dense. Thank you for your otherwise most kind and thorough response. I really hope that my admittedly stupid question has not engendered any ill will between us.
