Louisiana Is The Shocking New Movie-Making Capital Of The World

When it comes to major movies, California is no longer the world's production capital — that would be Louisiana, according to a new study released Thursday.

Eighteen of the 108 films released last year that were produced by the major studios and the five biggest independents were shot in the Bayou State, according to the 2013 Feature Film Production Study from FilmL.A., the region's non-profit permitting agency.

Paramount's “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” Focus Features’ “Dallas Buyers Club” and Warner Bros.’ “Grudge Match” were among the movies shot in Louisiana.

California and Canada were next with 15, followed by the U.K. with 12 and the state of Georgia with nine. Surprisingly, New York was the primary filming location for just four films in the study, but was used as a secondary location for seven. California served as a secondary site for 10 films.

Talk about Hollywood hypocrits. They vote in all this nonsence and then go to the Conservative states to film.

There are a few cutting edge digital studios here, but a lot of it has to do with some movie tax incentives that were pushed back in the Blanco administration.

Louisiana does have something of a historical relationship with film...a lot of the original, early B&W Tarzan pics were filmed here:

I don’t see many movies but I’m glad to see movies set somewhere else then the usual CA or NY. I however cannot recall any movie set even partly in LA since ‘Easy Rider’ or perhaps some strange Mickey Rourke movie.

Taxes and regs in California are atrocious.

It depends on what you are doing and how much you make. The regs are atrocious if you have so few yourself and taxes are atrocious because so many people MAKE enough to pay atrocious taxes.

Besides....why there are almost 40 million people here if the taxes and regs are "atrocious?".

My ex-friend from North Dakota has been telling me for 40+ years how WONDERFUL North Dakota is. However, SHE is here. Harhar. When I used to say that, she would then begin her litany of WHY she couldn't move back there. Squirm-o-rama.

The ENTIRE state of North Dakota has fewer people than the CITY of San Francisco. If North Dakota is so WUNNERFUL and the California taxes and regs are "atrocious," WHY isn't everyone moving OUT of California and TO North Dakota????

Met a guy from California about a month ago and told me exactly this. It was hard to believe.

If Alabama gave them more they’d dump Louisiana in a heart beat.

The same reason so much filming goes on in Michigan, Georgia and several other states.

“,” WHY isn’t everyone moving OUT of California and TO North Dakota???? “

LOL, go spend a winter there and get back to us on that. As much as we pride ourselves on being “progressive” you were in the highest tax bracket at anything above $50,000. I know that,s changed now that they keep tacking on to the evil millionaires but before they started that nonsense they considered 50 grand the elite.

Yes, I've been told about the winters. That's what brought her out here to California. But, ALL those states up there have the same winters. There are BIG cities up there. Is the winter somehow WORSE in North Dakota? I don't think so.

I GUESS North Dakota ISN'T so WONDERFUL after all, is it? She is still here and still complaining about the taxes and high rents. She WAS too spendthrift and lazy to save up and buy a house as well. She REALLY prefers to whine. She is SURE that rent control will disappear...and THEN she will move to where her husband is from. [He is from warm North Africa. O joy.]
