A former Internal Revenue Service official who declined to answer questions at a congressional hearing, citing the Fifth Amendment, gave a full interview to the Justice Department, her lawyer said.
That’s raising questions among Republican lawmakers, who wonder whether her choice to talk to Justice reflects a lack of concern about the DOJ probe. They also question the propriety of letting her avoid questions by lawmakers when she is answering DOJ’s.
The comments by Lois Lerner‘s attorney “cast further doubt on the seriousness of the Justice Department’s so-called investigation of IRS targeting, as well as the legal basis of Ms. Lerner’s refusal to testify before Congress,” said Frederick Hill, a spokesman for committee Republicans. “There is a clear contradiction between refusing to testify based on a supposed fear of prosecution and talking to the prosecutors.”
The Justice Department declined to comment.

Pick the strongest verb?
It’s real simple: hold her in Contempt of Congress, levy a penalty in the low 7-figures and throw her a** in jail. Then use the media firestorm to get all the information currently known out in front of the public. Including the fact that her 5th Amendment claim is bullsh*t, given that she didn’t invoke it when providing information to the DoJ.
My understanding of “Inherent Contempt” is that only the Chamber involved can do this. IOW the House can do this without the Senate concurring with the action.

Note to Issa: Charge her with contempt and slap her smart ass in jail! Perhaps when her “assistant” is also charged and starts to open up, Lerner will start to sing like the “jail bird” she is.

If the Republicans thought the Democrats were just going to let Lois sit quietly at home and contemplate her actions, then they really don’t know the Democrats.

The Democrats make their money looting the public treasuries. They justify their actions to themselves by convincing themselves that they are doing it for their family. They see opposition to them as an attack upon their family. It’s mental illness, but it is a great motivator for the Democrats.
What the headline means to say is “Former IRS Official Lerner seeks cover from the DOJ”!
