Mika Brzezinski has a jaded view of why young Americans choose to join the military. According to the Morning Joe host, they do so "if they need the money."
Brzezinski made her comment on today's show during a segment on a book comparing the values and beliefs of the various generations of Americans. When Joe Scarborough challenged her doing-it-for-the-money claim, saying that many serve "for all the best reasons," Brzezinski began to back down. Mika also suggested that her fellow panelists didn't know many people serving in the military, which might say more about the MSM bubble in which they exist than it does about the millenial generation.

Yes....my first ‘payday’ was in basic. They lined us up and put three bills in our hands, a Twenty, a Five, and a One dollar bill.
They then next put us in formation and then marched us to the barber shop where I had to give that bastard a dollar to cut off all my hair.
I did it all for the money.

That’s true for some unknown number of people enlisting, partially true for all of them, and has been the case for every army throughout history. I don’t of any offering to pay their own way and serve. Her statement is true but pointless. I guess the idea is that such tradeoffs won’t be necessary once we are living in the workers’ paradise.
Money?
Hardly... is there enough money in the world to induce young men to play craps with their lives? As it it now, there is every liklihood that recruits will see action during their enlistment period.
No. It’s something different... and I am sure the Liberals are incapable of understanding it.

Mika isn’t worth one drop of a soldier’s blood.
You can bet not many MSDNC viewers have joined the military.
Pathetic. When my son joined, paid for his own dress blues, incidentals, haircuts, boots and other necessities, and then found that his college bonus was deferred for a year, there wasn’t a whole lot of money to talk about.
But he’s a combat medic, is serving this nation and has his life mapped out to serve others. Mika is beneath contempt.
This is typical liberal think- jobs that are noble and good do not pay and while evil jobs pay. School teacher make little money while CEOs make millions. Since ill informed liberal commentators seems to pay well, what does this make Mika????
And in other news, doctor discovered Mika had a brain tumor when he was doing her recent colonoscopy.

“Joining for the pay & bennies” is a very tired old putdown on the military. Ms. Unspellable Surname could do better, but she too looks tired & old.
I can say that because I’m a tired old Vietnam vet. But unlike Mika, I could if necessary still be able to think my way out of a paper bag.

Money is the only reason that American Leftists can imagine themselves joining the military (after all government handouts had been exhausted).
Mika’s just echoing John Kerry. This is the left’s view of the military - a place where they’d go only if they had no other options.
