A group of five U.S. senators have joined the growing chorus of influential voices, telling the Kellogg Co. to end its nearly five-month lockout of more than 220 workers at its Memphis, Tenn., cereal production facility.
The Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM) Local 252G members who make Frosted Flakes®, Froot Loops® and other breakfast favorites were locked out as part of the drive by the company to replace steady, middle-class, full-time jobs with casual part-time employees who would make significantly lower wages and substandard benefits.
In a letter to Kellogg’s CEO John Bryant, Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Robert Casey Jr. (D-Pa.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) urged Bryant to “act swiftly” to end the lockout.
Many of these hardworking individuals have been employed by Kellogg’s for decades. They have made their career working for your company. Yet rather than being rewarded for their hard work and loyalty, they have been forced off the job…Kellogg’s workers work hard. They deserve nothing less than fair pay, benefits and full-time hours for their work.
They also note that, when our nation’s inequality gap continues to grow, replacing good-paying middle-class jobs with lower-wage, casual workers should not be the corporate standard.”
The workers have received support from national politicians, religious leaders, civil rights organizations and international labor groups, including the Congressional Black Caucus, the NFL Players Association, the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations, the National Action Network and others.

Why don’t the Senators hire them, as profit isn’t supposed to be an issue?
Ask Hostess how well the union worked out for them.
Isn’t that the same union that ended job-lock for the Hostess Cupcake workers?
If they’ve been able to lock them out for five months then they doubtless have an offshore facility or a plant in another state making the same product. So, they don’t need it anymore. I’d say close it. Then, in a year, open it and hire new staff.
Yes it is,you can only make Strawberry Dounuts and Frosted Flakes if you pay union dues.
Not a one of those senators actually from that state involved. A bunch of leftie teat sucking pols trying to make union thugs happy.
Since this is an ongoing dispute I would merely suggest that Kellogg ignore the outsiders and continue on with what is best for both the workers and the company.... and the consumer as well

They make big bucks. Free insurance. No copays. The changes the company wants is only for new hires. The union says no, so they locked them out.
Oh please. These Union members make almost $30 dollars and are not working because they don’t want Kellog’s to hire non-union members for less.
How good does these Unions have it to protest over non-union pay!
Having been raised in a union family, been in a union and worked at a union facility as a non-union engineer, I’m 100% against unions. I saw union thugery at work all three times. The IBEW sent a couple of heavies to convince my dad to drop out of a union election. He met the with his hand on a gun and ran them off. He lost. He said they did the changed who did the counting. The Retail Clerks ran the chain I worked at out of business, so we all lost our jobs. As an engineer, I had union guys pull tricks on me so they could accuse me of breaking rules. The accusation netted them an extra $250 each in penalties and I got written up. Unions are evil.

Well,I work for a non union compamy,get 7 weeks paid vacation,full benifits,profit sharing,Full Health care,went up because of obamacare,unions can bite me!

I'm certainly no Chuckie Schumer fan, but technically the NYS sales tax does not apply to most food, including dry cereals. However, there are certainly other NYS economic policies which tend to drive food prices up.
After a LOT of searching finally found out what this plant produces.:
Apple Jacks, Frosted Flakes, Corn Flakes and Fruit Loops.
