More drivers positive for pot in Washington [State]
The Seattle Times ^ | 3/7/2014 | Gene Johnson

SEATTLE —

More drivers tested positive for marijuana in Washington in 2013 -- the first full year after the state legalized pot -- but officials so far say there's been no obvious, corresponding jump in car accidents.

The Washington State Patrol says 1,362 drivers tested positive for having active marijuana in their system -- a jump of just under 25 percent from the year before, even though the patrol had fewer troopers on the road and there was no overall rise in intoxicated driving arrests.

I have a tenant that is working on their own eviction and they love to do lots of pot, slam the front door, leave and go driving DUI.

Pot is bad if you use it regularly. It make people aggressive if they use it a lot. Had to remove others and have police reports due to pot heads behaving badly.

Plus when my mother used to go to prisons for ministry, almost all the violent offenders were also pot heads.

This is not a safe drug, though I advocate accepting it for the rare cases of terminal people if they don’t have their smoke going into other people’s spaces.

Probably reduced the desire to resist communism or to move against the conditions they lived in.

The screwed up thing is that dispensaries aren't even legal in WA. If you need medical pot you are supposed to grow it on your own or have a designated person grow it for you and only you.

it is pretty much like the immigration laws. They exist, but are never enforced.

How long and at what volume have they been testing for pot in Washington?

If testing is up, positive results will be up.

I believe the article said there were fewer troopers doing testing in 2013 than before, yet more positives.

His problem may be a different drug altogether.

Marijuana laws across the country have loosened dramatically in the last 20 years. Traffic death rates fell by a third during this time. There is a positive correlation between looser mj laws and safer highways.

Of course there’s a correlation.

How can a pothead wreck out when he’s sitting patiently at the stop sign, waiting for it to turn green?

I have a neighbor here in the UP of MI, around his house it stinks like a skunk. The blinds are always closed and there is black plastic behind the blinds. Others drive through the neighborhood and grumble about the stench.

At times the skunk odor is so overpowering, you just want to puke. I have a 78 year old mother whom lives with me who has alzheimer’s disease. the doctors are screaming mad about the marijuana grower and marijuana processing right in the neighborhood.

I thought pot stayed in your system for weeks, so how do they know that a positive test result is from an hour ago or a week ago?

With that said, we should begin incrementally outlawing the sale of alcohol except it be consumed within the home.

Not advocating legalization of pot. What I am pointing to is the hypocrisy of the sale of alcohol particularly in local establishments that continue to serve alcohol into the late hours on weekends. Folks driving under the influence of pot is a small fraction compared to that of alcohol...that's just a fact. State legislatures refuse to kill this $$cash$$ cow.

Alcohol should be banned from sale after 9pm on weekends in pubs and eatery's. Plain and simple. Want to reduce a TRUE DUI epidemic? Focus on why states refuse to halt alcohol sales during peak DUI times. 9pm - 2am.

And consider ‘needle Park’ in Zurich.... all of those who want to justify their drug use can blather all they want to but the results still are devastating for the society in general and the family in particular

there's been no obvious, corresponding jump in car accidents.

0.08 BAC for "drunk" driving isn't about impairment, it's about easier convictions. "corresponding increase in car accidents" is misleading.

Cellphones are also a contributing factor to the increase in car accidents and no politician is willing to touch take the electronic pacifier out of drivers' hands. I was almost paralyzed by a car wreck from a housewife in a porche SUV one shining Saturday morning at 10am.

Actually, running into other cars is hard to do when you’re only doing 20MPH.

Beats having drunks behind the wheel by a series of magnitude..Ask any honest cop...

The big issue should be if low wage Home Depot guys who stocks shelves are randomly drugs tested, why are not cops, judges, mayors, Congress, the Senate, the President, and the people who perform the drug tests not randomly tested?
