Voters in this stretch of beach towns and retirement communities provide the first 2014 campaign test of whether Democrats can counter GOP attacks on the presidents health care overhaul by accusing Republicans of threatening popular benefit programs for the elderly.
Democrat Alex Sink and her allies in the spirited race to replace the late Rep. Bill Young in the U.S. House have spent millions of dollars on TV ads ahead of Tuesdays special election painting Republican David Jolly as an extremist who wants to privatize Social Security and gut Medicare.
Jolly has responded with a TV spot featuring his elderly mother and aunt, in which he says protecting their Social Security means everything to me.

Alex Sink, err, I mean Mrs. Bill McBride...who ran against Jeb Bush in 2002...is a carpetbagger...
She didn't even live in the district until a few months ago...
I hope her attack ads don't work, but never underestimate the stupidity of the voting public...
I have spoken to a few liberals who actually live in that district and none of them are excited about Sink...most plan to stay home...
Jolly should concentrate on GTVO...
Live here in 13 CD FL as well. Heavy Dem ads with help from Sierra club and AARP types as well. Pubs firing back with NRCC and Chamber spots.Even Bob Barker in spots for R. Will be a close race....think R pulls it out as Pres not well liked here now.
I also am under siege here in FL-13. I have blocked all ‘0’ calls and tried to ignore others. TV Ads have gone anti a month ago, you get them in blocks of 3 & 4 with any mix of Sink and Jolly. Jolly is a lobbyist - Sink ran a bank and on it goes. Campaign ends Tuesday - I hope Mrs. McBride lives to her maiden name!
Being FL, expect the worst, and you will nearly always be right.
