DRUDGE READERS SURPRISE GOP ELITE FOR PREZ

Become latest to defy D.C. establishment in sizzling new poll

Drew Zahn

When it comes to picking a presidential candidate for 2016, the GOP elite is having a hard time getting the grassroots to toe the establishment line.

Top Republican strategist Karl Rove, for example, has repeatedly praised Chris Christie, the Republican governor of New Jersey, as “a strong potential candidate in 2016,” whom Democrats fear will win the nomination.

And when other names gained popular attention, particularly attention among the so-called tea-party crowd, the man known as the “architect” was quick to criticize.

Rove, for example, blasted potential presidential hopeful Ted Cruz for not playing ball with the GOP establishment, just as the Texas senator’s name started to gain traction with Republican voters.

Rove similarly opened fire on Sen. Rand Paul, R-Tenn., for talking about Monica Lewinsky and potential Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the same breath.

And even if Christie has fallen from favor among the establishment, other GOP insiders have floated names like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and even the return of former presidential candidate and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as possible nominees in 2016.

But now a poll on one of the Internet’s top websites, the Drudge Report, reveals the ground troops just aren’t buying it.

With over 234,000 votes counted, Rove’s “strong potential candidate,” Christie, was garnering less than five percent of the vote. Bush had just over six percent. Ryan had less than four.

But despite fiery criticism from the GOP establishment, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was registering over 28 percent in the Drudge Report poll, while Tennessee Sen. Rand Paul was leading the survey, with over 30 percent. Paul’s 72,297 votes compared impressively to Christie’s 11,437.

It would appear it’s time for Conservatives and Libertarians unite to take back our Republic. Otherwise, there won’t be a country left to take back.

A Cruz-Paul ticket would be a winner!

You know who else I can NOT stand is that Tamara Holder!!! What a WITCH!

I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t watch Hannity anymore. I like Megyn Kelly and Greta. Sometimes I like O’Reilly but he interrupts and brags too much.

I like it. Because the role of a VP is one of a pit bull for the President, Cruz would fill that roll perfectly. Paul makes a great statesman.

How odd. I think the same about ‘conservatives’ dead set on electing RINOs.

I wonder who is more likely to be a ‘ringer’...the guy standing on conservative principle or the guy and ‘others’ who want it tossed yet again to elect more of our collective problems. Lurkers ought to consider that.

That’s what we want Paul/Cruz or Cruz/Paul blocks out the RINOs and anyone (like Ryan) they might try to sneak by us.

Right, same here. It is still too early to announce, but conservatives not announcing or likewise announcing after the debates etc. splinter the vote and gives the establishment candidate the win. We have to figure out our candidate early and stick with them, no matter how much crap the media throws.

Don’t even mention that over-stuffed doughboy to me. He is nothing but a RINO who has given us RINO candidates. I will not vote for Christie under any circumstances. The pro-abortion Obama loverboy who saboataged the last election. Give me some combination of Cruz-Rand Paul-Sarah Palin. to defeat the unindited felon from Arkansas.

Agree. Right now the only two I see worth voting for are Palin or Cruz. Paul’s Mitch endorsement hand his recent ‘slips’ mean he is another GOPe plant. Not going there. Ever. The rest on that list are far from what I believe overall and nowhere near the Reagan approved 80%.

If a candidate cant hit 80, I’m not voting for them. Period. Not an Obama period, a real one. If that means another Dem, so be it. I will never again vote to move the Right leftward. People can join me or not. Their call, their problem.

Norm, I don’t want a Rino anymore than you, but I and you have to take into consideration, bypassing an election, is what got us where we are.. I did it, but will not do it again.. I ended up watching Obama, twice, to prove my point.. I learned my lesson, haven’t you? I understand, but haven’t proved anything this way..
