Minnesota GOP State Representative Pens Racist Tweet About NBA Players

‘Let’s be honest, 70% of teams in NBA could fold tomorrow + nobody would notice a difference w/ possible exception of increase in streetcrime,’ tweeted state Rep. Pat Garofalo Sunday.

A Minnesota state lawmaker is under fire after making comments about the NBA that many feel were out of bounds. Gopher State Republican Rep. Pat Garofalo tweeted Sunday that “70% of teams in NBA could fold tomorrow + nobody would notice a difference w/ possible exception of increase in streetcrime.”

The offensive tweet was met widely with criticism: more than 1,200 people retweeted it and hundreds of others replied to the tweet, calling it racist.

After the fallout, Garofalo said he was only "talking about NBA's high arrest rate.”

“They are the only major pro league that testing positive for marijuana is not a substance abuse violation," he told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “No intent beyond that.”

Garofalo, according to the Star Tribune, regularly takes to social media to convey controversial opinions. Last summer, Minnesota residents widely blasted the Minneapolis-area native for a tweet in which he called a teachers union a liberal hate group.

A racist tweet with no reference to race?

Is it, or is it not the truth?

There was outrage? The truth hurts.

I guess you would say if the NHL ended, there would be an increase in serial killers?

That wasn’t racist. It was culturist. And I’m completely with him.

Truth is irrelevant. Only feelings count.

Maybe it keeps a lot of criminals home watching the game on TV?

Well, that was circumspect, eh? What a stupid ass.

Any Congressman who thinks it was a good idea to tweet that, really doesn’t deserve to be that. He should go back to being a supermarket manager.

You sure post a lot of race based threads. Do you have a chip on your shoulder?

These smart guys don’t GET IT that liberals are lurking around the corners just waiting to pounce on them, looking for the weakest link, so to speak.

This is a STATE REPRESENTATIVE, which, in the states I have lived in, has about as much power and money as a used car salesman (which is a MUCH more honorable profession, BTW). But, tomorrow, this will be NATIONAL NEWS on MSNBC.

“National news” and “MSNBC” don’t really belong in the same sentence, ;’) but well said!

Why is this racist? It’s not like almost all the players in the NBA are black! Oh, wait, they ARE!

It is a racist league since they don’t have enough affirmative action white people. Not an equal opportunity employer. /s

I guess this is all why I have totally given up on major leagues sports. I’ve gone from season ticket holder in the NFL to not having watched a baseball, basketball, or football game in 20 years in person or on TV.

Don’t have a clue who is on which team, who the stars are, and only knew who was in the Super Bowl since that’s all I heard for several weeks. But all I knew was who the quarterbacks were. I can’t remember them right now or which team they played for.

Thank God Almighty, FREE at last!!
