RED ALERT: Romney To Gather Aides In Utah
Conservative HQ ^ | 3/10/14 | CHQ Staff

Posted on 03/10/2014 7:01:15 PM PDT by xzins

The Washington Post reports that failed establishment Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is gathering his “political brain trust” at a swanky Park City, Utah ski chalet later this month.

If political brains were a prerequisite for an invitation it seems like Romney could have held the gathering in the broom closet of one of his mansions, but conservatives should not dismiss the threat to the prospects for a conservative victory in 2016 that Romney revanchists represent.

As The Post reports, and we hear from time to time with incredulity, there is chatter among some powerful GOP donors about another Romney presidential campaign in 2016.

The reunion is expected to include some senior campaign staff and debate prep advisers, including Beth Myers, Stuart Stevens, Russ Schriefer, Bob White, Peter Flaherty, Eric Fehrnstrom, Austin Barbour, Gail Gitcho and others of the so-called “brain trust” that managed to give away the 2012 presidential campaign.

According to The Washington Post article, Romney is also planning another get together this summer in Park City, where for the third straight year he will invite top political, business and policy leaders for an ideas summit. In 2012, during his campaign, the retreat included several possible vice presidential hopefuls, and in 2013, many of the GOP's leading 2016 presidential contenders attended, including Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

We’re inclined to believe Romney, who has been adamant in saying he will not run for president a third time, even though this this is the same Mitt Romney that said during the campaign "I've been as consistent as human beings can be" in response to challenges regarding his constant flip-flops and evolving principles of convenience on matters related to the conservative agenda.

It says a lot about the caliber of advice Mitt Romney received that that in the midst of the worst economy since the Great Depression of the 1930s he was soundly defeated in a 332 to 206 Electoral College blowout that saw him lose virtually every closely contested state, including the must-win states of Ohio, Virginia, and Florida.

In any logical universe Romney’s staff and consultants, such as Beth Myers, Stuart Stevens, Russ Schriefer, Bob White, Peter Flaherty, Eric Fehrnstrom, Austin Barbour, Gail Gitcho and pollster Neil Newhouse would never be hired to run or consult on a national Republican campaign again and no one would give a dime to any organization that would be so improvident as to take the kind advice that led Romney to lose in 2012 by almost 5 million votes.

The danger presented by the Romney pow-wow in Utah isn’t a nascent Romney presidential run, it is that Romney's “stand-for-nothing” style of politics will continue to exert its destructive influence on the Republican Party through the influence of his “brain trust” and the content-free campaigns they advise Republicans to run.

People say that now. What happened last time?

If we do not collectively stop circle jerking around with Rand and Rick and the rest of the CINOs and settle on an actual conservative, spines will be cast aside again and we will have a repeat.

That simple.

The GOP should dig up Bob Dole and run him too.

Under the heading of “You've Got to be Kidding Me” Surely he's not this nutzo. I felt it in my gut the other day, though, when they showed clips of Romney being “right” about Putin and Russia. A true narcissist could not possibly let that go unexploited.

I think it's worse than that. He has "groupies," for lack of better word *cough*sycophants*cough* who are plainly deranged with a weird kind of level-headed deliberateness because they believe it is Romney's destiny. They deliberately, continuously frame the argument in very clear contexts:

1. They are the grown-ups and conservatives who won't vote for Romney are "children"

2. You're voting "for" the Democrat opposition if you refuse to vote for Romney, so you're a bad guy as well as a child

3. Romney's clear, documented, posted record of functional Democrat big-government, pro homosexual, pro abortion, pro global warming, anti gun, pro liberal activist judges and pro government-run health care advocacy, are invisible, irrelevant, not real, not true, take their word for it because they are grown ups and we are children.

Solid gold truth is this: The behavior of a candidate's core supporters tells you a lot about the candidate.

There's a demented, depraved kind of psychopathy going on, if you ask me. In 2012, that bastard connived to get good Christians, moral Americans, to "hold their noses" and vote for government-supported abortion and government-forced acceptance of open homosexuality, although they despise and shun both. That guy got good people to vote for depravity, PERIOD.

I say, "Nuts."

The thing to keep in mind is this:

Romney had his chance.

He won the nomination last time. He was our candidate. He had the nomination, and a very good Vice Presidential candidate too I might add.

And he LOST.

No way. Get out of the way this time Romney.

“Christians, moral Americans, to “hold their noses” and vote for “

Christians should not have been shocked when they prayed to God to deliver them via a man who among other antiChristian activities, spent his own cash to help kill children via Planned Parenthood.

And he did not answer.

Who coulda saw that coming...

“He’s got the money and the establishment suckups want to see it.

The other money mint is with Jeb Bush.”

I believe you have that right.

I think the next nominee will be Bush, Romney, Ryan or Santorum.

“Well, I gather Romney is not particularly liked here”

I don’t think anyone is particularly well liked here.

You should check out some of the threads from the 2012 primary. It was brutal. Bachman, Perry, Santorum, Gingrich, Palin, Romney, Huntman, they were all pretty much portrayed as the spawn of Satan here.

Does he have any dogs now?

If so, send a message. Put the dog's head in his bed.

Call the dog a martyr, sacrificed for the cause. Cuz if this sumbitch takes out conservatives again, then plays patty-cake with Democrats -- he deserves to be himself [fill in the blank]

I'm concerned he and some of his want another go at the Mormon white horse hero thing.

BUT he played nice with Obama, when what he needed to do was go after that commie hammer and tongs, relentlessly.

Whoever it is that runs -- needs to make this next election about Obama's multiple failures.

Obama ran against Bush. Let's return the favor.

Don’t let his non-campaigning run for office fool you. He wants what his “brainwashed” father could never attain — the presidency.

The reason he didn’t campaign was that he can only campaign against conservatives. Liberals, socialists, communists and marxists are close friends and family to him. He would never campaign against them. Therefore, he could not say anything bad about Obama.

I had never heard of Austin Barbour before, so I looked him up and just what I thought — he is Haley Barbour’s son.

For those who don’t know who Haley Barbour is, he is the former governor of Mississippi turned “super lobbyist” and is one of the most malign forces in the GOP. Right now, Haley Barbour is coordinating the push for amnesty for illegal aliens and greatly expanding the number of “guest workers” to please his corporate pay masters’ insatiable thirst for cheap labor.

The increasing number of children of politicians working as political apparatchiks is disturbing. It’s not something we have traditionally seen in America and resembles something out of a third world country like Syria or Iraq.
