Rand Paul Calls Ted Cruz on Bashing Their Party
Houston Press ^ | Tue., Mar. 11 2014 at 7:00 AM | Dianna Wray

Posted on 03/11/2014 7:42:24 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

Lots of people in the Republican party are fed up with Sen. Ted Cruz, but Sen. Rand Paul is the guy who is doing something about it.

On Monday, the conservative news website, Breitbart News, published an op-ed by Paul, where the senator from Kentucky took Cruz to task -- without ever actually naming the guy who may be beloved by the Tea Party conservatives, but has earned some pretty impressive dislike from the elected members of his own party -- for his hijinks that Paul said have encouraged divisions within the party:

"I don't claim to be the next Ronald Reagan nor do I attempt to disparage fellow Republicans as not being sufficiently Reaganesque. But I will remind anyone who thinks we will win elections by trashing previous Republican nominees or holding oneself out as some paragon in the mold of Reagan, that splintering the party is not the route to victory."

Paul based the whole thing around Reagan, the guy that every Republican with presidential aspirations wants to grow up to be. Cruz has bucked the authority of party leaders and has made it routine to oppose anything that smells of compromise while likening himself to President Ronald Reagan. Because the Gipper is second only to God among Republicans, comparing yourself with him is on the level of calling yourself the Lord and Savior. In some circles -- the ones on the far sides of the inter-party divide -- it's worse.

Paul went over how one does not become the "next Reagan" by pretending to do what Reagan would have done.

"Every Republican likes to think he or she is the next Ronald Reagan. Some who say this do so for lack of their own ideas and agenda. Reagan was a great leader and President. But too often people make him into something he wasn't in order to serve their own political purposes."

Of course, Paul and Cruz are both angling to be on the top of the 2016 Republican ticket, so it's not exactly a shock to see Paul call Cruz out in a backhanded fashion over Cruz's claims to Reagan's legacy. At the same time Paul himself is hoping a little of that Reagan magic rubs off. He put out the op-ed in Breitbart pleading for people to find some tolerance and stop splitting the Republican party up.

YES! Just fodder for the Dems. They LOVE internal division......and they sow a lot of the seeds to create it. Can anyone say James Carville?

They can point out Reagan’s rule about not criticizing fellow Republicans but I dare say the ones being criticized are not true Republicans. Reagan himself would have a hard time not calling these backstabbing traitors on the carpet.

Right on the money. The GOPe pukes, among them, Boehner and McConnell have moved left of the RAT party of the early 80s.

Reagan would not hesitate to call them out.

For all those who think Rand Paul is Conservative, I have one thing to say -- explain his support for McConnell.

Anyone who truly cherishes our Constitution knows clearly and without a doubt that McConnell is direct threat to our Republic.

Reagan's 11th Commandment has as its premise the assumption that all republican politicians believe in the essential planks of the party's platform - curbing wasteful spending, decentralization/localization of government control, strong defense, etc.

Perhaps this was true 30 years ago, but there is plenty of evidence these days indicating that is not the case. These phonies have been winning office by running as 'conservatives' and running the country as socialists.

Someone needs to call them out.

With either Cruz or Paul or Palin at the top of the ticket you will need a “moderate” as VP to expand the voters pool to get elected. Yeah that sucks, but Cruz/Christie, Paul/Bush, Palin/Ryan or something like that is what it will take to win. Notice also that there is a state governor on each ticket. Voters like state governors, they have executive experiences and a track record of the same.

If Christie, Bush, Ryan or anyone else who's a friend of the RINO/Chamber of Commerce branch of the party is on the ticket, they lose my vote. A compromise ticket will not win people over. Cruz and Paul together will win, with an appeal to young voters and those fed up with status quo politicians.

Don't you get it? Nobody wants people who bent to the will of the elite.

Ryan would be a good pick if he didn’t have Romney-itis.

Thanks for this thread.

_______

HEY! Dianna Wray! Yeah YOU!

These were the lead words in your article: “Lots of people in the Republican party are fed up with Sen. Ted Cruz, but Sen. Rand Paul is the guy who is doing something about it.”

The phrase “Lots of People in the Republican Party” implies that there are so many people that you do not even have to document that any of them have names!

We Conservatives have names for these “Lots of People in the Republican Party,” and they are known to us collectively as “Republicans in Name Only,” “RINOs,” or RINO Cowards.

In the US House the Leadership of the RINO Cowards include “Benghazi Cover Up” Boehner, “Can’t Impeach Obama” Cantor, and “Cave In” Ryan.

In “Do Nothing Legal” Reid’s US Senate, the Leadership of the RINO Cowards include “Son-of-a-Mitch” McConnell, “Corrupt as they come” Cornyn, and Loser Emeritus “Wacko Bird” McCain.

The above partial list of your “Lots of People” are all RINO Cowards, tried and true who have done their best to avoid doing their Constitutional Duty for the last five years of lawless Obamanation Rule.

Replacement of these RINO Cowards is essential to the survival of the US Constitution by either Senator Paul or Senator Cruz.

BTW, all of us Conservatives have been fed up, for more years than we care to remember, with you journalists in the Left Stream Media.

She doesn’t want the Republicans to win.

Holding out hope for a Wendy Davis governor win.

HairBalls (which is where her columns run) is a bratty column in the Houston Press where libs laugh at Republicans, religious observers, and the Texans NFL franchise.

Given the number of negative posts on this thread by you I'd say that something hit a nerve.

Reagan's 11th Commandment has as its premise the assumption that all republican politicians believe in the essential planks of the party's platform - curbing wasteful spending, decentralization/localization of government control, strong defense, etc.

People, mainly GOP-E types, like to hide behind the Reagan's 11th commandment so that they can shut off discussion of the truth. Sadly, Rand Paul is the latest to take up this ruse.

The same Reagan who came up with the 11th commandment, also came up with this:

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

Very True.

The same Reagan had this to say about GOP-E types in his day:

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Yup, even in TEXAS we have a few Obamanation supporters.

BTW, have you noticed how the Left Stream Media supports all Cave Ins to Obama by Doormat RINO Cowards Boehner, Cantor, Ryan, McConnell, Cornyn and “Wacko Bird” McCain?

Yes indeedy! Doormat RINO Cowards are Obama’s best friends forever!

FORWARD !

Paul or Cruz either would be fine by me. Both would be great.

My only absolute "I'm voting 3rd party" guy is Christie - and this is from a guy who voted twice for him for governor.

I have higher standards for America than I do for Jersey.

Point taken, but again I say IF HE ENDS UP BEING THE NOMINEE AND WE DON’T VOTE, WE GIVE THE PRESIDENCY TO THE DEMS AGAIN. I’d rather DIE than see another eight years of commie red.

Romney wouldn’t have been in my top 20 even, but he would have been much better Pres than Obama. Or do you not even agree with THAT?

I agree with you. We must all make our vote count...we must all work together to make this a WIN for Conservatives. And to the FReeper who plans to sit home if he doesn't get his, telling everyone you're going to stay home if your candidate doesn't win is loser's talk. We don't want to hear what you WON'T do. We want to hear what you WILL DO to make sure a true Conservative is elected. I disagree with Rand Paul on certain issues, but he does have a place in our Conservative government..he is a good man. There is sufficient time for Conservative candidates to tell us what they stand for and believe in, and propose to do. Stay tuned, everybody. We must think and act positively...negative talk is poison.

A Stay AT Home is a vote to let hitlery win and to let America finish bleeding out.

There is probably not a dime’s difference between Rand and Cruz, either will do America right.

But that is where we disagree — There is a continent between them on the US as a superpower and on marijuana.
