9/11 recruiter reportedly freed in Syria

Mohammed Zammar, the al Qaeda operative responsible for recruiting the suicide-hijack pilots for the 9/11 attacks, has reportedly been freed inside Syria.

Zammar's freedom was reported by Zaid Benjamin, the Washington correspondent for Radio Sawa, on his Twitter feed on Mar. 2.

Writing for Al-Monitor, John Rosenthal cited multiple sources confirming Zammar's freedom in an account published on Mar. 10.

Zammar was captured in Morocco in late 2001. Unlike most of the 9/11 co-conspirators who were captured, however, Zammar was not transferred to US custody. Instead, he was sent to Syria, where he was imprisoned by Bashar al Assad's regime.

Zammar, who was freed in late 2013, was exchanged for Syrian army officers who were being held by jihadist forces. The exchange of prisoners was reportedly negotiated by Ahrar al Sham, an al Qaeda-linked group that frequently fights alongside the Al Nusrah Front, al Qaeda's official branch in Syria. The Ahrar al Sham is a major constituent of the Islamic Front, a coalition of seven large Islamist fighting groups in the country. . .

I suppose the pro-Assad “conservatives” (pro-Putin, too) will be along any moment to remind us that Assad is a great friend of the Christian faith, Jews too, in their minds.

It was to exchange for captured soldiers. Israel routinely frees convicted terrorist killers for the same purpose.

The regime in Syria has probably killed more al-Qaeda terrorists than everyone else together. Dozens are dying daily. On good days, the number is in the three digits. In all likelihood, this man will be dead soon, like several former Guantanamo guests in this war.

The regime is still on the ropes and has to do everything it can to preserve its manpower and moral. It’s an important morale issue for soldiers to know that if they are captured, their leaders will make a strong effort to free them, especially if they are being held by the head-choppers.

If the regime falls, al-Qaeda affiliated groups, who now make up an outright majority of the rebels, will control most of the country.

Assad just paid a million plus ransom to free Christian nuns who were being held by al-Qaeda too. That only happened because Hezbollah along side Christian National Defense Forces militia were closing in town of Yabroud where the nuns were being held and the captors decided to get something for them before they were freed by force. Meanwhile, our buddies in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait are funding and arming those same terrorists.

Couldn’t the US government, neoconservatives or churches in American have lifted a finger to free the nuns? None did.

Wake up. The cold war ended 25 years ago. The world is in a state of upheaval, old alliances are collapsing and new ones are being forged. Neoconservatives and their fellow travelers are on the wrong side of history, with dwindling support from the American people and have been wholly rejected by younger conservatives.

Neoconservatives have had their day and it’s done. We have tasted their fruit and it was bitter indeed.

You're a hoot. It says a lot when you believe Assad, who helped al Qaeda get to Iraq to fight and kill Americans, is now a champion of anti-al Qaeda efforts. He is fighting them out of necessessity now, not because he was ever against them before.

Try to get over your pro-Assad, anti-neocon, anti-US, anti-US Churches outlook. It's unmanly and benighted.

“He is fighting them out of necessessity now, not because he was ever against them before.”

No kidding, I never claimed otherwise. I am well aware that he sometimes ignored al-Qaeda in the past. Although he also worked with the US to fight them at times, which is why that guy was in jail in the first place. It’s always wrong to help or turn a blind eye to al-Qaeda, no matter who does it.

What’s unmanly is globalists like you who have no loyalties.

Real men defend their people when they are under attack. When Christians are being slaughtered by al-Qaeda in Syria, no real Christian man would advocate doing anything that would make their situation worse.

Are you smoking pot when you write? If I’m a globalist, what are you, a parochial rube?
