There was a time when there was no need to explain what happened on December 7, 1941. It was one of those dates every American knew, and it opened a well of hurt and rage, pride and determination, and a hundred other memories and emotions. Nothing else needed to be said. December 7th. That was enough. It was one of those dates. Much like September 11th today. A date which would live in infamy. So said Franklin Roosevelt when he appeared before Congress the next day and asked it to declare that a state of war had existed between the...

Once again, the real news in France is conveniently not being reported as it should. To give you an idea of what’s going on in France where there are now between 5 and 6 million Muslims and about 600,000 Jews, here is an email that came from a Jew living in France. Will the world say nothing – again – as it did in Hitler’s time? “I am a Jew — therefore I am forwarding this to everyone on all my e-mail lists. I will not sit back and do nothing. Nowhere have the flames of anti-Semitism burned more furiously...

Yesterday, singer Tony Bennett appeared on Sirius Radio to promote his new album, "Duets II", and told Howard Stern we caused the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by bombing 'them' and they flew the planes into the World Trade Center to tell us to 'stop'. Bennett said: “Who’s the terrorist? Are they the terrorists or are we the terrorists? Two wrongs don’t make a right.” He later added, “They flew the plane in" but "we caused it" because "we were bombing them and they told us to stop."

America's economy could have collapsed after 9/11, but instead, it rebounded. Its people could have sunk into depression, but we rose to the challenge of rebuilding and supporting those who had lost so much. Taking time to commemorate the sacrifice and loss of so many Americans is fitting; many columns and programs have done so. I prefer to remember how, in the days after 9/11, Americans pulled together to bounce back. In a visit to Israel in 2005, a citizen observed, "In Israel, we respond differently to terrorist attacks. We don't make a site a memorial to those who died....

The root cause of September 11 was fundamentalist Islam. The West responded to that provocation with overwhelming Military force, but Military force (as we learned the hard way) is not enough, we need to fight an idea with another set of ideas. Cast your minds back to the Cold War. The Soviets offered a perverted vision of the future of mankind, it was elegantly written and beautifully argued - and it was seductive. The Free World countered by emphasising the timeless message of the Gospel and the Judeo-Christian foundations of Free Societies. An alternative vision was presented. This planet has...

Nothing to the jihadists, but they force the memorial ceremony to end and its participants to leave, to avoid an "incident." So much for freedom of speech. Shame on you, Britain. On this 10th Anniversary of the September 11th attack on America we’ll hear politicians and pundits wringing their hands over the “tragic events” of that morning. They’ll wonder aloud whether we’ve “learned anything” in these past ten years and whether we’ve achieved the correct level of “tolerance” and “understanding” that is so desperately needed to solve our worlds problems. From our president we will hear a call to community service and a plea to find volunteer opportunities in our neighborhoods, because, you know… the real message behind 9/11 is to plant a garden at the local welfare office. What we...

The tragic events of 9/11 were immediately followed by a grotesque and shameful fusillade of anti-Americanism, which still resonates today. I had already written my column that day. I still recall, although almost everything else from that morning is wiped from my memory, that the subject of it – this column that no one would ever see – was Tony Blair's upcoming appearance at the TUC conference. National Security: The Sept. 11 commission stated that our biggest failure was one of imagination. Imagine an Iranian nuclear device detonating high over the American heartland. They're working on it. On the same day the 9/11 Commission issued its report, another commission issued a report on a threat that could change our world and way of life in ways we can scarcely imagine. It is that time, the day we knew was coming, the date we did not need to mark on our calendars. What happened on that terrible Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, was a tragedy that profoundly affected us all. We stood motionless as we witnessed the unthinkable become reality. We gasped as we saw twin towers crumble, and we cried as we watched grown men weep. And then we gathered together, as communities and as a nation, to seek a collective consolation from those around us - our families, our friends, our colleagues. With the nation teetering on the brink of a double dip recession, President Barack Obama returned from his $50,000 a week vacation and delivered his weekly radio address. There was no mention of his promised new ideas for job growth and helping the poor and middle class. There was no comment on the re-estimated 0.7% economic growth for the first half of the year. But counterterrorism officials say they believe the planning never got beyond the initial phase and have no recent intelligence pointing to an active plot for such an attack. As of February 2010, the terror organization was considering plans to attack the U.S. on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Anyone who disagrees with President Obama has been labeled a “racist”. Those who attend tea parties have been labeled “Nazi”. If you don’t like what this administration has done, and speak out against it, according to the Speaker of the House, you are “unamerican”. Taxes must be raised on the “rich” as, according to our President, they are the “greedy” ones who sit back and reap their rewards off the backs of the “poor”. Let’s forget for the moment that the “poor” wouldn’t have a job, but for the “rich”. We have an Imam who wants to build a Mosque...

ELCA Joins Interfaith Religious Leaders to Address Anti-Muslim Rhetoric 10-241-JB CHICAGO (ELCA) -- The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) joined a coalition of Christian, Jewish and Muslim leaders to denounce rising anti-Muslim rhetoric and bigotry in the United States, as the country prepares to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The religious leaders met in Washington at the request of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Plainfield, Ind., which hosted an emergency interfaith summit Sept. 7. Afterward, the interfaith leaders released a statement at a news conference at the National Press Club. They...

NEW YORK (AP) — American Muslims are boosting security at mosques, seeking help from leaders of other faiths and airing ads underscoring their loyalty to the United States — all ahead of a 9/11 anniversary they fear could bring more trouble for their communities. Their goal is not only to protect Muslims, but also to prevent them from retaliating if provoked. One Sept. 11 protest in New York against the proposed mosque near ground zero is expected to feature Geert Wilders, the aggressively anti-Islam Dutch lawmaker. The same day in Gainesville, Fla., the Dove World Outreach Center plans to burn...

by Fareed Zakaria September 04, 2010 Nine years after 9/11, can anyone doubt that Al Qaeda is simply not that deadly a threat? Since that gruesome day in 2001, once governments everywhere began serious countermeasures, Osama bin Laden’s terror network has been unable to launch a single major attack on high-value targets in the United States and Europe. While it has inspired a few much smaller attacks by local jihadis, it has been unable to execute a single one itself. Today, Al Qaeda’s best hope is to find a troubled young man who has been radicalized over the Internet, and...

Muslim residents hand out "Islam Explained" to fairgoers; want to show people they are "not terrorists." Despite the smells of fried dough and roasted meat wafting from the Minnesota State Fair, Salim and Zuleyha Ozonder were focused on the people who were leaving, not the food or festivities beckoning from across the street. Each time a new wave of people exited, the young Minneapolis residents — who hadn't eaten all day — tried to press into their hands a small, glossy card that read "Islam Explained" on one side. On the other, it had about 180 words of background on...

NEW YORK (AP) - It is "unethical, insensitive and inhumane" to oppose the planned mosque near ground zero, more than 50 leading Muslim organizations said Wednesday as they cast the intense debate as a symptom of religious intolerance in America. The imam behind the project, meanwhile, was preparing to return to the U.S. after a taxpayer-funded good will tour to the Mideast, where he said the debate is about much more than "a piece of real estate." Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf sidestepped questions about whether he would consider moving the $100 million mosque and Islamic community center farther from where...

As Ground Zero-area mosque Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf heads home a few days early from his State Department-sponsored trip to the Mideast, the Wall Street Journal quotes from two letters he wrote to the NY Times in the 1970s in which he is less-than-committed to preserving the Jewish State of Israel. The interest has been peaked, in part, because of the comments he was quoted making on "60 Minutes" in which he called the U.S. an "accessory" to the 9/11 attacks in the days shortly after the carnage, and a separate interview recently in which he wouldn't denounce Hamas as...

David Beamer, a 9/11 family member whose son Todd was among those who fought back aboard Flight 93, recently spoke out against the mosque planned for Ground Zero: "I sure believe that this mosque, if it happens, will be a memorial to the grand martyrs that accomplished their mission beyond their wildest dreams ... That will be a monument to celebrate and to remember who? To remember for sure the fifteen who completed their mission." Here is the video:

Two protests on Sunday morning, in the normally quiet blocks north of Ground Zero, claimed to be on the side of tolerance. One camp stood in favor of the mosque and Islamic center that has been proposed for the area; the other argued against. Around 500 of those opposed gathered in a cordoned-off area, heavily monitored by police. They sang patriotic songs and spoke of a hijacked Constitution, a renegade presidency and tolerance toward the sensitivities of New Yorkers whose relatives died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. A counterprotest, smaller but equally passionate, gathered steam two blocks away, where...

(The photos and links and stories at this story are outstanding). On June 6th, we organized a protest to stop the 911 mega mosque. All those photos and images that FOX, CNN and the now dying big media have been showing (without identification of course) was the SIOA rally. El Marco had extraordinary coverage here and here. A 15 story mosque looking down at the cemetery of Ground Zero in the location of a building partially destroyed in the 911 Islamic attack is wrong. It is indecent. The Burlington Building is Ground Zero.
