The net for Ohioans is a $174 million tax cut over the next three years.
Kasich proposes funding an 8.5 percent income tax-cut for all tax brackets — a $2.2 billion reduction over the next three years — by raising the state’s tax on a pack of cigarettes 60 cents, from $1.25 to $1.85, while also taxing other tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, at an equivalent rate. That would generate about $850 million during the next three years.
Kasich also wants to raise the Commercial Activity Tax on gross receipts for businesses from 0.26 percent to 0.3 percent, a roughly 15-percent increase providing $743 million in three years; and implement a gradual 2.75 percent tax on oil and gas extracted from horizontally drilled and fractured wells, generating $874 million in three years.

I live in Ohio (bordering W.Virginia) and don’t smoke, but I don’t agree with this move at all.

Let’s not forget how desperately they want your children indoctrinated, without your consent.
Let’s not exclude “daddy’s” nasty habit(s). Do you think because daddy doesn’t carry the baby that he is not biologically responsible for what he too, may either pass on to his baby, or, create for the child later on in life?

And while I agree that secondhand smoke, or smoking in and of itself is bad, NOW is not the time to be divided as a “People”. It’s what they want so that they can do to us what they are doing.
I am all for you all getting an income cut, but how about cutting government spending to attain the necessary revenue, instead of increasing other taxes?

Taft was convicted of 4 misdemeaners. He accepted gifts worth a huge 5800 dollars which were not reported properly.

A large republican donor donated money then got a contract to invest some of Ohio’s money in gold coins. Only some of the coins walked while most stayed. This is a felony and he is still in jail. Ohio had a plus return on the investment in spite of the embezzlement because the price of the coins tripled in value and Ohio made out ok but not as well as Ohio should have.
This isn't about smoking as far as I'm concerned, it's about standing in the way of an income tax cut.
I’m not the one trying to screw countless thousands of working people out of an income tax cut because it threatens my filthy habit somehow. Because smokers have so many more rights than working people right? Yeah, I’m the selfish ahole in this debate all right.

First off, I don't know how this has been proven---I only go by what I've witnessed in my 75 years. Smoking was never an issue for pregnant women or any one else, back in the day (don't remember when this warning began).
No one told women they could not/should not smoke while pregnant yet they did not have unhealthy babies .Sure, some babies were and are born with serious problems---whether their mothers or fathers smoked or didn't. You must know some cases. We do not know all the answers to why this happens---heredity, recessive genes, parents' ages, etc.
No, you are wrong to conclude that I promote smoking. What I object to is unproven information.
This is a major reason the smoking wars are over, and smokers lost. Bigtime. It isn’t a conservative value to put the health of your fetus at risk. To play Russian Roulette with an unborn babies health.
Is it the smokers which upset you or that you think it's costing you money? On the money side, you're probably losing a lot more through politicians' waste and greed. Obama's health care fiasco is a prime example and he clearly has no regard for unborn babies, or even some that are born!
I suggest you get rid of that chip on your shoulder, and it IS there. Many smokers are nicer, kinder, more caring people than many non-smokers.

I am not a cigarette smoker, but I do enjoy good cigars. I smoke at my home, in my car or at a cigar lounge, or wherever I want without bothering anyone else. I don't blow smoke in my neighbors face.
However, I am sick and tired of the government taxing everything. In the same vein I don't drink coffee, however, I sure as hell don't think the government should raise higher taxes on it. I would not just sit back and say it does not affect me so it is not my concern. Overbearing government regulation and taxation IS everyone's concern.
If they put federal EPA related type use tax on toilet paper would it then bother you?
