In Florida District 13's special election to replace the late Rep. Bill Young (R-FL), Young's former aide David Jolly leads the race with almost all votes counted. Jolly faced off against Democratic nominee Alex Sink, a former financial officer for the state of Florida, and Libertarian candidate Lucas Overby. Yes, good news indeed if the DemocRATS can’t “find” enough additional votes.

Once again, the so called Libertarian candidate almost handed it to the progressive DemocRat candidate.

Saw an MSM piece a few days ago that was cheerleading for the Dems that a win here would show that the Dems aren’t really all that unpopular and are in good shape for November. Betcha I don’t see any story about this race tomorrow.

That is a problem.
There are a lot of Soros funded Libertarian and Tea Party candidates that are not real and are there to shrink the vote to favor Democrats.
Then where there are real candidates the same thing at times happens.

If all of these were for Sink(a despicable candidate)she could not win.

As best I can tell, Overby is a true Libertarian. However, he’s an open borders guy and disqualifies him from my vote. Of course, a lot of libertarians believe in open borders as well, so no surprise there. At least in this case, he doesn’t seem to be a liberal masquerading as a libertarian.

“..almost handed it to the progressive DemocRat candidate..”

That is what scares me about the General election. The Perot syndrome - a third candidate could sink our ship. It is also in the DNC playbook. They have been known to pay right leaning candidates to run as third party to siphon off Republican/Conservative. It works.

The official libertarian position on immigration is to fully, and truly, literally, open the border and fire the Border Patrol and the INS.

“this is a District that Obama carried. Twice.”

Yes, but republicans have held this 13th District seat since 1983.
This was not an encouraging win. More like a squeaker. He should have gotten 50% of the vote at least.

Had this election been during a presidential election year when the rats’ base turns out he would have lost.

I think its very possible IF conservatives are ready to work for it. I have done calls for Brannon’s campaign. I have donated money. The guy would be as tenacious as Cruz in the senate. We really should push this guy. He’s no Stockman.

I think if Rand and Mike who have endorsed him, will stick their necks out a little, and go and campaign for him hard, stump for him, we can win. Tillis is unacceptable, a Rovian. Rick Berg waiting to happen.

I must admit this Overby geek (little red beard and all) never appeared on my radar.

He may even be a sincere, for-real candidate. However, given the symbolic importance of this little by-election, I sincerely doubt it. Smells Soros-bad. Took 9,000 votes from Jolly, who himself ain't no box'o'chocolates, but a heap better than the carpet-bagger Obamaslut, Sink.

My precinct workers told me that turnout was very, very big, which even if Jolly wins, might be the best news of all. We need turnout to overcome fraud pockets here in the county of the newly wed and nearly dead.

Jolly's victory is significant because it was in a potential swing district and will be seen as a test of the strength of Obamacare as an issue.

The Democrat, Alex Sink, had an advantage in that although neither candidate ran an especially good campaign, Jolly's was troubled by a divisive primary and persistent organizational weaknesses. Relying on the best GOP issue, Jolly and his allies focused their attacks on Obamacare, while Sink advocated fixing it and did her best to talk about anything and everything else.

In this context, Jolly's victory suggests that Obamacare will indeed be a millstone around the necks even of Democratic candidates who seek to avoid its adverse political impacts.

The incumbent who died in office was the longest serving Republican in the delegation. The District is now a swing district and the Dems expected it to flip to D when the incumbent left office. This is a loss for them.

He supposedly recorded one for the Jolly campaign. Based upon the Losertarian still getting about 5% of the vote, it wasn’t successful at all.

Expect the DemocRATS to ratchet up this tactic of encouraging (and financing) such candidates.

We should encourage a Green to run to offset the libertarian damage. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thank you! Why does the GOP let the Dems get away with crap like that without fighting back? They should find a quasi Green Party Candidate, United States Marijuana Party Candidate and a Socialist Party USA Candidate. These are all legitimate political parties in the United States. Beat the devil at his own game.
