Call them Glassoldiers.
The American military may soon be filled with soldiers sporting Google Glass-like headgear that can measure distances, display 3D building layouts, transmit video from a drone and more, all on a glass display right in front of their eyes.

Battlefields are full of data soldiers can use: enemy positions, the location of fellow soldiers, maps of a city or a house, video of what they'll encounter over a hill. But until recently, there's been no way to live-stream that data to soldiers on the ground. That's what Q-Warrior, high-tech headgear built by United Kingdom-based BAE Systems, provides. First reported by Wired, it gives soldiers a full-color, 3D display of what's happening in areas outside their line of sight, which has the potential to seriously boost a soldier's situational awareness.
Though neither BAE Systems nor the United States military would confirm to Mashable that the two had agreed to a contract that would allow soldiers to test-run Q-Warrior, they both said it's only a short matter of time before soldiers will be sporting new eyewear.
“It’s not 10 years out from now, it’s been available for a while," Donald Lee, a project lead in the Army's Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center, told Mashable. "It’s just how do you do it?”

googles budget is pretty extraordinary.,...but so is the U.S. Military budget..
We put men on the moon before there were any tech firms of thier size and scope.
I’m betting that “U.S. Glass” existed before google glass.
Problem is we have not found the mix between high cost and tech edge. All our weapons are tech edge, but at a very high price (IAW we can afford less of them). Take stealth fighter. We have gen 5 aircraft, but China can make several gen 4.5. Result is a draw or worst slight favor to enemy if they catch us in a strategic surprise. Inability to keep our tech secret. Globalizing our tech industry allows us to access international talent, but it also allows the enemy to plant agents in our DoD projects. So even if we build a stealth fighter, Chinese spies already stole enough info to build a stealth fighter at less cost and time. Until we solve the affordability and tech security issue, our weapons will just cost more and enemy spies will simply steal it shortly after we start production.

Heh. Which soldier in a real combat platoon (not a section) will sign for those? Soldiers have avoided many similar items of gear, because they tend to get in the way and get broken.
Bingo.
To stop spying, we would have to tolerate intrusions into our liberties. We would each have to get a yearly “Persilschein” from the local councillors, as in Franco’s regime.

If I ever see a really hungry child that isn’t 100 lbs over weight, I’ll feel sorry for it.
All children are hungry 100% of the time and all we do is feed them sugar and make sure they don’t get exercise. They will all die young if something doesn’t happen to change it.
It's not the tech. It's the use. Being against technology because it might be used against innocent citizens is exactly like being against guns because they might be used by bad people.
Here is the modernized version featuring no A-10 support. Think of it, gentlemen! Even as the Jihadis mount their final attack on your position, you can still play "your little word games" in your foxhole!
No... It’s not derived from google glass. It’s far more advanced than google glass. I worked for somebody that built early parts of this system more than 12 years ago. Really amazing stuff. But not yet ready for prime time.
Without revealing anything classified... Think near-perfect situational awareness in a heads-up display for each soldier. Real-time friendly and unfriendly ident. Heads up display connects to rifle sight. Hold around corners and take a precision shot. See augmented reality of friendlies in field of view. See heads up of real time satellite feed, link to drone video, active mapping feed from HQ. that’s just the beginning....
When it’s ready for the soldier it’s going to be awesome. But there are monumental problems to solve between now and then. It’s too heavy. It needs too much power. It’s too complicated. All of those things will be fixed. Not yet... But they’ll be figured out. We have to figure it out.

This technology is supplied by a British Company and has nothing to do with Google. I think that it is important for the public to realize that there are several other manufacturers of ‘Smart Glasses’ and countless smaller companies working on pragmatic software solutions to assist in the workplace. Anywhere, in fact, were the relaying of augmented (overlay-ed) information to operatives in the field will assist in the completion of the task in-hand. I envisage that the initial role-out of this technology would be to tactical commanders/advisers, but important breakthroughs are being made in the field of surgery, and other disciplines, which will make this technology mainstream in the very near future.
As soon as we make it it is stolen or given to our enemies. Remember there are forces within our walls that think everybody should be even and we are the root of all the world’s evils. We let foreigners come over here and go to school and work and send our tech back home.
