Disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 Sparks Conspiracy Theories

While tormented family members cling to the hope that their loved ones will be found alive, conspiracy theorists are already spreading rumors online. According to the Internet, it could be anything from alien abductions to the North Korean government.

It may take years before investigators determine exactly what happened to Malaysia Airline Flight MH370.

But the conspiracy theories are already flowing freely. The facts behind the plane’s mysterious disappearance make it ripe for theories that range from the plausible, like pilot error, to the outright bizarre, like alien abduction.

The tale of disappeared Malaysia Airline Flight 370 took another twist today as Malaysian authorities said one of the two people who boarded the plane with stolen passports was an Iranian who had no links to terror groups.

The Boeing 777 en route to Beijing vanished early Saturday morning, along with its 239 passengers and crew. Investigators say the flight veered off course for more than an hour with all of its tracking systems turned off. Dozens of ships and aircraft from nine nations have launched a search and rescue mission, but there’s no trace of the plane — no debris, no pinging from the emergency locator and no guarantees that it will ever be found. Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble has tamped down on suggestions that the plane's disappearance is linked to terrorism. But some theorists are suggesting that terrorists have hijacked the plane and parked it in an undisclosed location, completely intact but with radio devices turned off. Distraught family members on the ground have reportedly tried calling their loved ones. They said the cellphones connected and rang, but that no one was picking up.

But where would you hide a 100-ton jet? Some theorists are pointing fingers at Pyongyang. Reddit user Nickryane claims the plane had enough fuel to easily land in North Korea and still be within cellphone range. The authoritarian country hijacked a jet in 1969, Vocative reports, so they've played this game before.

Another theory is pilot suicide. There’s no evidence that captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah or co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid had suicidal intentions. But it’s happened before — in October 1999, EgyptAir Flight 990 plunged straight into the Atlantic ocean, killing 200 people. The NTSB concluded that one of the pilots, Gameel al-Batouti, had intentionally brought the plane down. According to CNN, al-Batouti didn't seem surprised in cockpit recordings when the jet started making a downward descent. The pilot also constantly used the phrase, "I rely on God."

There were about 145 Chinese nationals on flight MH 370, so users on the Chinese social media platform TenCent are focusing on the China connection. Some are blaming Uighur separatists. The Uighers are a group of ethnic Muslims from Xingjiang, the westernmost region of China. Beijing has blamed Uighur separatists for a brutal knife attack in Kunming that left 33 dead and more than 100 wounded. Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble, center, speaks during a news conference at the Interpol headquarters in Lyon, France. He said he did not believe the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines plane was a terrorist incident.

And then there are the folk who think nothing on this planet could have been responsible for something so daring and inexplicable. There were no mayday calls or signs of plane malfunction before the jet went off the radar. A number of people on social media are claiming that such a sudden disapparance could be a sign that extraterrestial life exists.

One blogger speculated about everything from secret military weapons tests to "Bermuda Triangle-like ripples in the fabric of spacetime."

"If we never find the debris," he wrote on Natural News, "it means some entirely new, mysterious and powerful force is at work on our planet which can pluck airplanes out of the sky without leaving behind even a shred of evidence."

The ocean is very very big. Its entirely possible this machine went deep out over the southern part of the Indian Ocean, ran out of fuel, crashed and sank. We simply may never know what happened.

Yes, the ocean is gigantic, and it is entirely possible that no trace will ever be found. We will just have to wait and see. If memory serves me right, there was a B-17 that crashed in the California mountains during World War 11, and was only found fairly recently. I remember seeing the story of the Lady be Good. I think they found 7 of the 8 bodies. I have been on some mountain roads in the Philippines, and I always thought if we went over the side, they would never find us.

Jimmy Hoffa has the 777 at his secret island compound.

If a plane that big hit land (crashed) anywhere, it would be smoking for days.

Very strange.

Big plane, lots of fuel, big fire if flown into the ground.

If into the sea, parts and some bodies float. The black box has its own power and would be transmitting.

Those who compare this to WWII era lost planes, or the fifties or even sixties, crack me up.

Why not talk about the wagon trains that got lost and vanished crossing Utah or Nevada in the 1800’s?

A 777 can’t go missing today. It’s impossible with modern tracking systems and embedded computers and satellite monitoring and everything else.

It took the Malaysian Air Force four days to realize they had it tracked across the peninsula into the Andaman Sea? Yeah, right.

The inescapable fact is that the PTB know what happened to it, and they’re not talking.

And oh BTW, they don’t talk about UFOs, either.

So it’s not that those dots must be connected.

But they can be connected.

I had several incidents where water got into my cell phone (don’t ask lol) and it would stop working.

It stopped working on your end but surely when you tried to call the destroyed cell you go a ring-tone and perhaps were even sent to your voicemail. This happened to me before. It seems these people think that just because the phone appears to be ringing on the caller's end it, it means the phone on the other end must be still working.

If this was so, then why do we have to call an outside number to listen to our voicemails?

the ringing cellphone and logged into accounts can happen. you see people logging in and online all the time but they are not.

as for the ringing phones after a bit of reading it appears there is a series of events that can happen to allow phones to ring even when they are not.

so for example (from what i have read), if you were sitting on the tarmac and forgot to turn off your phone the network logs you into a cell tower. as you leave that cell tower it expects you to be connect to another tower but you dont as you head out to sea. you appear online but no call can connect BUT you are still registered online.

also apparently and i didnt know this but if your phone receives a sudden shock while connected and the battery is disconnected the cell tower and systems dont register you offline. so if you ring its the exchange ringing (the last one you connected with), not the the phone. so the phones have a number of reasons for ringing but they are not.

i am amazed no one has tried tracking the phones to see where they were last since they flew over populated areas, they would reconnect to the towers. also i wonder did the plane have wifi or cellphone coverage, if so it would be easier to track its location to within a mile or so.

A plane hijacking is not a conspiracy theory.

For some reason this writer wants us to think that anything other than the plane disintegrating is absolutely not worthy of sane consideration. And then she has the gall to state the known fact that the plane completely reversed course from its intended destination...a clear sign that something unususal was happening.

She even lists suicide on her list....when such a thing has happened before. And “hijacking” a conspiracy theory? Has anyone told this lady about the World Trade Center?

I just listened to an expert of Fox say that if the plane turned off its tracking equipment and then flew at a low altitude that it would be virtually untrackable.

Hijackers could have taken the plane and then crash it, intentionally or through bad navigation or fuel decisions.
