Where do House Republicans stand on the set of immigration principles released by GOP leadership in January? Journalists at CQ Roll Call spent two weeks asking each House Republican’s office and combing through their public statements to answer that simple question. We have recorded the answers, which suggest weak support within Speaker John A. Boehner’s conference for overhauling the nation’s immigration system.
The initial CQ Roll Call tally found 19 Republicans backing the principles, two who said “possibly yes,” 30 Republicans openly opposed, 22 who refused to say and 25 who were undecided. Three others had nuanced responses. The other 131 did not respond to calls or emails from our team. Matt Fuller broke down the categories in this original story.

I agreed with Harry Reid on Joe Heck.
“Reid’s disdain for Heck got me thinking: Is the senator concerned that the Republican congressman might run against him in 2016, when Reid seat is up?
Reid, a former boxer, essentially said bring it on.
“Joe Heck compared to the people I’ve run against over the years, is a lightweight. Let him run,” Reid said. “He’s a lightweight compared to all of them.”
“How about Sharron Angle?” Reid added. “He’s a lightweight compared to her. Let him run.”

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Boehner’s Amnesty Czar Becky Tallent was in Austin Texas pimping Amnesty at South by Southwest earlier this week. Darrell Issa was there pimping Amnesty, too. Amnesty is not dead.

Boehner doesn’t think his immigration reform is amnesty. There’s only one way to explain his treasonous attitude; he’s compromised.
The Reps could care less about amnesty. For them it is a bargaining chip to get what they really want from the Gang of 8 bill, a doubling of the guest worker programs to satisfy their corporate paymasters. Look for amnesty during the lame duck session.

The absurd thing about our immigration situation is that almost every other county in the world with large scale immigration is deporting illegals and reducing the number of immigrants allowed, or at least the politicians are competing with each other to claim they will do this.
The USA is literally the only Western country where giving amnesty to illegals is being seriously discussed.
Wealthy Saudi Arabia deported over 2 million visa overstayers in 2013 and made impoverished Ethiopia pay for its own citizen’s airfare home if they couldn’t afford it. Israel has passed tough new laws with long prison sentences for people who “infiltrate” across it’s borders. In the UK, the LABOR PARTY leader says immigration must be cut back and that previous immigration has harmed the country. Other European countries’ political climates are even more negative on immigration. Australia is now deporting illegal immigrant “asylum seekers” to an offshore detention center on contact and automatically denying their claims for asylum. Singapore reduced immigration after people complained that they were taking too many of the available jobs — their quasi-democratic government actually listened to the people and acted quickly. Impoverished Botswana put an electrified fence on it’s long border with Zimbabwe. This goes on and on.
The near unanimity with which the political class and the media here in the USA support amnesty and open borders is a complete anomaly.

Pete is an idiot. I think he just doesn’t think about it much. He said “it is something we should do” but acknowledged that the rank and file said no to Boehner. Maybe he thinks it is a moderate position now with his fight with the Tea Party.
When Karl Rove in 2006 met with 20 House Republicans to pass amnesty to get a sample, 19 of them told him no. Peter King and Steve King both said no
Peter King cosponsored the border fence bill.
Steve King has been behind the scenes trolling Rove (you will not get a cockroach across that border when I build the fence), assisting Lamar Smith and trolling Trey Gowdy most recently.
