How curbing climate change can prevent Russia from becoming a superpower
Los Angeles Times ^ | March 12, 2014 | By Matthew Fleischer

--BIG SNIP-- Putin has said that "two or three degrees" of climate change could be good for Russia, in that it would reduce heating costs and increase crop yields.

Of course Russia will face harsh consequences from global warming as well. Wildfires and drought have hit the country hard in recent years -- trends that will likely only worsen as the planet continues to heat up.

So for all you out there blasé about climate change, you may want to take a long hard look at your position -- because it doesn’t take that much effort to see a post-global warming Russia emerging as an unchecked superpower.

America has done pretty well for itself under the current global climate. Doesn’t it make sense to do everything we can to preserve that trove of good fortune?

This idiot apparently is being paid by the LAT to write this crap. Is it any wonder it's bankrupt.

Lower the price of oil by $15 and it would curtail Russia’s plans significantly.

I always thought liberals were delusional, and this guy ‘picked up his pen’, so to speak, [well actually used his computer] and in one fell swoop verified everything I always knew I knew!!!

Leftist are so certain that they are superior thinkers to us mere conservatives, and yet, they have no common sense at all.

LAT has decided as a matter of editorial policy to censor out any reference to skepticism about global warming. This is the fruits of that policy--idiocy run amok with no countervailing appeal to reality to restrain it.

Putin is probably right about a little global warming. It will make things nicer for Russia.

So if you’d only prevent something that doesn’t exist, Putin would play nice.

He is not just probably right, he is completely correct. Global warming has been a net benefit worldwide (in the scientific studies they don’t tell you about) and will continue to be so in countries like Canada and Russia. It is unlikely that temperatures will go beyond the beneficial stage since they are rising very slowly and subject to external factors like solar activity.

I’ve seen some worrying about whether melting permafrost would jack up temperatures far more due to methane. I am skeptical about that, as methane is also yummies for certain soil bacteria. The methane that gets left in the atmosphere may be much less than what gets liberated by melting permafrost.

The permafrost will stop melting as Alaska continues to cool (over a decade) and Siberia levels off. It’s really only melting on momentum at the moment. Much of the methane is not in land-based permafrost but under the Arctic ocean and is protected by pressure and permanent cold just as it is in the Gulf of Mexico.

Having spent years dealing with Enviro/libs I assure you that isn’t ‘nuts’. To us? Yes. Starkers. To them? That is how they think about everything.

You have to understand something. People say it but no one truly believes. People need to stop pretending these people are sane somewhere deep down. They aren’t.

With each rising of the sun, history begins. Think about just how deep that goes. NOTHING said yesterday matters because that was yesterday and yesterday is a social construct.

Sounds crazy but they BELIEVE it.

Now when yesterday does not matter, neither does tomorrow. Because tomorrow never comes. So ANYTHING they say can come true “TOMORROW”.

Sounds crazy but they BELIEVE it.

God being a figment of right wing imagination and “we are the people we have been waiting for” are believed for a reason. The reason is that they believe each liberal to be a God. Proof? What is the logical conclusion of the lib commandment that “We each have our own truth and my truth is not yours”?

This IS liberalism. It is beyond a cult/cult behavior. They think they can, like the kid in the AI movie, pray to the blue Fairy, embodied in themselves, and their desires become “Their truth”.

Yes, it sounds completely nuts. Pick A N Y liberal idea/proclamation/desire and run it through the filter presented above and tell me with honesty that I am wrong.

NOTHING they say will ever surprise me. And if we keep empowering them to continue to the logical conclusion of their desires, we are going to be fertilizer for the soil nourishing Gaia.

I’ve engaged a NASA higher up on Climate Change and haven’t decided yet whether or not to pursue the issue, but they are spewing the talking points without remorse and ignore anything that does not comply with their agenda as far as I can see.
