GOVERNMENT WORKERS COST 45% MORE THAN PRIVATE SECTOR WORKERS
Breitbart Big Government ^ | March 14 | by CHRISS W. STREET

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) announced on March 12th that the total cost of employing a state or local government worker is 45% more than an equivalent worker in the private sector.

For the month of December 2013, employers in private industry spent an average of $29.63 per employee hour worked, but the equivalent cost for a government worker averaged $42.89 per hour.

Not only do government employees average 33% higher pay than those in the private sector, their pension and retirement benefit costs are now an incredible 254% higher also.

Given that compensation formulas for federal, state, and local government are comparable, it should come as no surprise that this year spending by the U.S. government will exceed revenue by an all-time high of $744.2 billion, and our gross national debt is a stunning $18.5 trillion.

Lowball estimate.

Indeed it is. And the funny thing is the feds have some kind of “pay equivalence” study group (of course made up of federal employees) and they find that the Feds are HUGELY underpaid compared to comparable private sector employees. You can’t make this stuff up.

Is that per person, or per work unit? I expect it’s the former, and the figure for the latter is even worse.

“government worker is 45% more than an equivalent worker in the private sector”

The real number is much higher than this because government “workers” do little actual work. If private sectors workers don’t do the job they are dismissed. If government employees do not do the job they stay around for years.

Perhaps, but Asst. Deputy Administrators (GS-12) are critical to a smoothly running bureaucracy.

When I entered the workforce 30 years ago I had job offers from a corporation and a job with the Federal govt. The starting pay was similar but everyone knew you would end up MUCH better in private industry. Boy have things changed.

It’s not their money and they don’t care how they spend it. They’ll just ask for more. Ii heard yesterday about some city (los angeles) employee who caused an auto accident. “City employees do not have to have their own insurance’ the report said, so LA is out the 3.5 million dollar settlement. That’s disgusting!!

I was at a government site for four weeks, and made a comment to my client about the sink in the locker room. It had finally made its way out of the shipping box and into the corner near the broken one.

My client said it is such a scam. What would take us 3 hours to do takes them six weeks. He was in on a meeting and the boss was pleading with his workers to work. (He couldn't yell at them because then the union would be come down on the boss for harassment). But pleading. “Come on guys, if you can just give me 4 hours of good hard work each day we can be back on track in three weeks. PLEASE!” (BTW - they work four 10-hour days!)

My client said the boss couldn't even get them to do that.

At another government site the head manager we were supposed to see to was never around. His receptionist would say he had stepped out, at a meeting, etc. (For two days we got the run-around.) When we finally got ahold of another manager he said “Oh - she's just covering for him. He comes in and turns on his lights and computer - then goes to his civilian job for the day. Swings by the office at the end of the day to turn everything off.”
