Army cutting combat brigades: The Army could need to cut brigade combat teams — the Army's self-sustainable deploying units — nearly in half to accommodate the Pentagon’s plans to slice the Army’s size to below 450,000 soldiers after 2017.
Gen. John Campbell, the Army’s vice chief of staff and second-highest ranking member, in an exclusive interview with The Hill said the service was already planning to reduce its combat brigades, basic Army units of 5,000 soldiers that can be deployed and sustain themselves overseas.
The brigades were scheduled to reduce from 45 in 2013 to 32 by 2015, but now the number will shrink further. “That 32 is tied to 490,000, not 450,000. ... At 450,000 or 420,000 we can’t keep the same amount,” Campbell said.
Campbell did not say exactly how few active-duty brigades the Army could afford to have with the smaller forces.
A Feb. 28 report from the Congressional Research Service cited an Army briefing in suggesting active-duty brigades could be cut to 24 with an Army of 420,000 soldiers in 2019.
Cutting active-duty brigades by that much could dramatically alter U.S. capabilities overseas.
For example, the Army might not be able to keep two active-duty brigades in Europe.
That would send a negative signal to Eastern Europe, where fears about Russia have grown with that country’s military intervention in Ukraine.

The earth is being inherited by people who don’t put their women in the military; they breed instead. The more “equal” (in the liberal sense of the word) women become, the faster a civilization disappears. I’ve mentioned on other threads that I ran into an interesting item at a flea market that was very troubling to one of my sons: a pair of ACU digital camo pants with an elastic section in front (to accomodate a pregnant “soldier”). These were military issue pants!
Not surprisingly, we were in an area (north Jersey) once populated by Americans that is now filling with “others” that have different ideas about women and propagating the speicies.
I’d suggest “cutting” all of odumbo’ stupid ideas just as quickly as possible, before he gets us into some REAL problems there is no way out of.
Someone forgot to tell CJCS Dempsey about cutting the Army’s already anemic combat strength in half. He just said we’re ready to intervene militarily in the Ukraine.
And the "concept" of force multipliers can only be even marginally valid if you are willing to unleash the forces. What we are doing is reducing our might to the point we won't be able to do any more damage with a full-tilt effort than we are willing to do with the current ROE that handcuff our warriors. We are heading for true paper tiger status.

That depends on their rate and why they are there...Chaplains and their assistants are in combat areas and units, and some are female. Doctors and Nurses too.
Thank you....women have served well and without some of those nurses in WWII many would not have come home. Females make good Chaplains and also secretarial rates.

I wouldn’t assume that; while some certainly are, unfortunately the one that comes to mind due to the publicity (the guard at Abu Ghraib?) was a mess. Knowing several people in the military, they see a variety of women in the service.
Patriotic women don’t do what that woman did, period. I was speaking about women who have served honorably....
I think the Abu Ghraib guard, she was dishonorably discharged among other things.
Usually the Conservatives are willing to serve for reasons of freedom and educational benefits. Some liberals as in registered Democrats, but they are usually moderate, somewhat conservative. The libtards are aligned with the more opposing factors to the military...always exceptions to every rule though.
