Hawaii tries to ban eating cats and dogs

Animal lovers in Hawaii packed a legislative hearing room Thursday with poodles and pugs, asking lawmakers to ban the practice of eating cats and dogs in the state.

The House Committee on Agriculture later advanced SB 2026, a bill to ban the practice.

The Humane Society of the United States says dog slaughter for human consumption is happening across Hawaii. The group receives at least two reports a year of dogs or cats being slaughtered for food, but it says it’s hard for law enforcement to catch animal slaughterers.

“When we do get these reports of cases of dog or cat slaughter, unless they’re caught in the act, law enforcement is not able to really prosecute,” said Inga Gibson, Hawaii senior state director for the Humane Society, which pushed for the bill.

Eating meat from cats and dogs is considered acceptable in other countries, including parts of Asia.

How are they going to determine who ate a dog? Will they check his blood for doggie proteins? Will they see if he suddenly has a wet nose?

By what right do these liberals propose to ban such a practice? They must be Eurocentrists as Asian countries eat such meat.

There was the incident in Hawaii a few years ago of the golf club member who brought his Black Lab to the club and left it tied up inside the cart barn while he did something in the club. When he came back the dog was gone. It was later revealed that a couple of club employees had cooked the dog and eaten it.

Those silly people, it's happening across the entire country, wherever there are Chinese restaurants.

Can’t comprehend why eating a non-endangered animal, one’s that’s privately owned and slaughtered humanely under the state’s laws, should be banned.

***
Can’t really argue with that, I guess. As long as they are not taking other people’s pets.

I have a fiend who is half Filipino and half Mexican. He used to own a bar in a Filipino part of a small town here. One night I went up to see him and he was in the card room so I sat down at the bar to wait for him. A lady came in from outside selling burritos and I bought one. Right after she left he came out of the card room, threw my burrito away, and lectured me on never never eating anything the ladies sell. Lol

I remember some Tijuana street tacos from the late 60’s that were not beef, pork, or chicken. They weren’t bad, though.

It's all about aesthetics. If pigs were furry and cute and looked like a cat, they'd probably be safe.

There are a lot of people that hate cats but I don't them proselytizing about the flavor of cat. However many people sing to the rooftops about bacon. Ham could be on a totally different animal and it is delicious. Pork roast taste different than the other two. Then there is sausage and braunsweiger and ham hocks. I think piglets are cute and some pigs even have fur but that would not stand between me and my pulled pork sandwich.

Two reports a year? Not investigated. Not confirmed. Just reports.

And this is what they spend their time on?

I guess all other animal related problems have been solved.

Had some buddies in the Corps from the South. They told me of hunting "squirrels" they would then dress and sell to the black neighborhoods in the small towns. Apparently the neighbors got suspicious of the kids and demanded they start leaving the paws on for positive ID as squirrel.
