Michelle Nunn’s Gun Problem
Townhall.com ^ | March 15, 2014 | Brandon Howell

Michelle Nunn’s got a gun problem.

The Democratic Senate hopeful in Georgia, one half of the That 70’s Show ticket looking to bring the party back to prominence in the state, seems to have a problem telling voters where she’s at on the Second Amendment.

In a weekend interview, she voiced opposition to recently passed Georgia legislation loosening restrictions on carrying firearms in the state, which passed by an overwhelming margin. That in and of itself is unlikely to win any of the rural conservative votes needed to pull off an upset.

Then things got dodgy.

When asked if she supported the idea of cutting ammo clip sizes from 15 to 10 rounds, she said “I think there are a lot of different conversations around that, and I think it’s a little arbitrary how we define that, and so it’s not something that I’m focused on right now.”

If you’re scratching your head, you’re not the first one.

How in the name of common-sense is cutting ammo clip size defined arbitrarily? It’s a yes or no question, Nunn just can’t afford for Georgia voters to know where she stands on the issue.

Bad as it is, that answer came after she was pressed on the topic. Her initial response said even less.

That the issue is the Second Amendment is even more troubling given the forces powering her campaign.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg maxed out to Nunn’s campaign in the final fundraising quarter of 2013, this coming in the same year in which he called on donors to quit contributing to Democrats who oppose his pro-gun control agenda.

That led onlookers to speculate he’s got his eyes on some reciprocity if she emerges victorious.

Such musings and evasions are hardly welcome for a campaign already dependent on lightening in a bottle for an upset in November.

It’s hardly surprising, though, when you consider the national forces that are doling out donations and resources to support Nunn’s effort to net a vote for Harry Reid as Majority Leader.

Bloomberg, Warren Buffett, Howard Dean, and Hanoi Jane Fonda have all contributed since the launch of her bid in July. The majority leader himself teased her announcement by citing how necessary a Peach State victory is for both himself and the Obama administration to accomplish their agenda in coming years.

Given this week's NBC/WSJ poll, in which 48 percent of respondents said they were unlikely to vote for a "strong Obama supporter," those comments feed into Republican arguments against her.

One of Nunn’s first endorsers was pro-choice EMILY’s List, which her campaign made a point of declining to comment on publicly. Unfortunately for them, they were caught running Facebook ads touting their backing and calling for support so she “can keep fighting for the issues that matter to women and families.”

All of which reads more like a rap sheet than Democratic revival in a state like Georgia, which hasn’t elected a Democrat to statewide office in eight years, with the last senator being in 1996.

The only polls that have shown Nunn competitive with the crowded slate of Republicans vying for a shot have been conducted by Public Policy Polling, usually commissioned by proudly progressive outfit Better Georgia, and often shown as deeply misconstruing the makeup of Georgia’s electorate.

Just this week a survey generated national headlines for showing her tied or leading a handful of would-be rivals (though it couldn’t be bothered to include all major comers). When broken down by party, the poll’s electoral makeup simply said around half “generally vote in Republican primaries,” whatever that means.

In other words – we’re dealing with gamed polls to fit a narrative, not accurately reflect the current political winds of a state.

Much like digital ads touting a pro-choice group’s support says something on that issue, donations from the likes Bloomberg and the others serve as tell for Nunn’s feelings on the 2nd Amendment, among other issues.

We just aren’t likely to hear her talk about them from now until November.

Secret editorial guidance has, for a decade or more, been to show Republicans with their mouths open and Democrats with their mouth’s closed. (I read a study on this while Bush 2 was president and in the hundreds of examples the practice was obvious and widespread.)Given that, this is an astonishingly unflattering photo.

She’s a Democrat. She will support abortions, higher taxes, and gun control. On that you can depend. And, she knows what’s best for you.

Allow me to be the first. They are called 'magazines'. Not clips.

Says it all. Elections by artificial narrative.

And, don't tell me, but I am guessing that there is a libertarian candidate in this race, right?

Georgia has been comfortable with wishy-washy 2nd Amendment candidates in the past...

The state of Georgia has no restriction on “magazine clip ammo bullet” capacity.

“I’d say it looks just like her.”

Almost every MSM photo of Hillary looks as though it’s had the glamor Photoshop treatment. If you see her live it almost appears she’s a different person from the “candid” magazine shots. This photo would have been improved if they’d at least used one with her mouth closed.

“I did a search on her. Her pics don’t get any better. “

I suppose that’s good. It’s less likely she’ll set any legs to tingling.

She’s with the demonic party ... therefor, she wants to take guns from citizens and impose tyranny.

That’s what the demonic party is all about.

The SchoolMaster

Mr. Griswald walked up to the wagon and introduced himself.  I introduced myself, as well as Mark and Billy Davis, Mark’s friend.  “These children are twelve minutes late for class.”  Mr. Griswald looked at his pocket watch to enforce his statement.  I tried to explain how a Western school operated.  Many families didn’t have time pieces, so the children had to judge their pace by the bell.  “They’ll be no bell for my classroom.  Punctuality is the responsible of the individual.” His expression was firm.

“I see,” I stated.  But I wasn’t so sure he saw.  “Well fellas, you better hustle!”  I gave Mark a pat on the back and helped him down off the wagon.  Then I helped Billy down.  He accidently hit my rifle and it fell off the wagon.  Billy immediately apologized for his clumsiness.

Naturally, my boy Mark bent over to pick it up and hand it to me.  “Don’t touch that!” Mr. Griswald suddenly shouted.

Mark’s hand froze.  “But it’s not-“ he started as he once again bent to pick it up.

“I said don’t touch it!” Mr. Griswald ordered gruffly.

I stared at Mr. Griswald, not quite believing that he was talking to my son like that – especially when I was still standing right there!  I didn’t much appreciate it either.  “But it’s not good for a gun to stay in the dirt,” Mark tried to explain calmly.

But Mr. Griswald was anything but calm!  He was acting like Mark had just threatened to burn the school down or something!  “Take your places in the schoolroom…immediately!” he ordered Mark and Billy.

Hello?  Didn’t he see me, the father, sitting right there in the wagon?  Didn’t he think I was capable of disciplining my own child?   But Mark said nothing.  He nodded, gave me one last look, then hurried into the classroom.

Mr. Griswald bent over and picked up my rifle.  He held it out to me and asked, “Is this gun loaded, Mr. McCain?”

Now I ask, what good is an unloaded gun?  “Certainly,” I answered as I took my gun from him and sat it securely on my lap.

“In the name of sanity, how can you place a loaded weapon within easy reach of children?”

I remained calm knowing he was from back east and not used to the western culture’s way of life.  “Your points well taken, Mr. Griswald,” I stated.  “But it can’t go off without being cocked.  And the reason it’s loaded is because a rifle’s a necessary safeguard in open country.”  I tried educating him on some facts about the West.

“Safeguard?  Carelessness is inexcusable anywhere!” Mr. Griswald stated.

“I just explained-“ I started, but he wouldn’t let me finish Mr. high and mighty thought he was so much wiser then me.  He ordered – yes, ordered – me not to bring a firearm to the school again.

I stared at his retreating figure as he walked into the schoolhouse.  Boy, did I feel sorry for those kids right now!

They are MAGAZINES.

As far as Michelle Nunn goes, her dad voted anti Second Amendment.

I wouldn't expect anything less from daughter.

"[Sam] Nunn served for 24 years as a United States Senator from Georgia (1972 until 1997) as a member of the Democratic Party."

Hmmmmmmmm. A Democratic Southern Senator from back in the day. Wonder what sort of atmosphere Michelle was raised in regarding "the darkies"?

We do know that her dad is a member of Augusta National, which only allowed in a "darkie" in 1990, and only allowed women in 2012.

I can guess there's major amounts of hypocrisy floating around behind closed doors there...
