Russia defied the world yesterday as it vetoed a UN resolution that declared today’s referendum on the status of Crimea invalid.
Samantha Power, America’s ambassador to the UN, berated her Russian counterpart, Vitaly Churkin, at an emergency meeting of the Security Council in New York, saying his country stood alone and its actions were wrong.
Thirteen countries voted in favour of the resolution. Russia voted against the motion, while China abstained.

They are not going to go war. And wagging the finger at Putin is in reality a demonstration of American impotence. He’s not going to be shamed by international disapproval to refrain from pursuing what he sees as Russia’s vital interests.
Putin doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who capitulates when the pressure is on. America is not feared in Moscow, that is for sure.

We have seen this movie before many times. Russia invades a neighbor, appoints a Judenrat and KGB thugs take control. Then sham elections under the barrel of a gun declare loyalty to the motherland.
The the US will do exactly what it has always done. Refuse to recognize this theater and wait for history to dispose of Russian despots. Russian hegemony never endures because the country is rotten at its core.
No dress code for American ambassadors to the UN I guess.
