Texas Gov. Perry throws support behind McConnell

MURRAY, Ky. (AP) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry threw his support behind U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell on Saturday, telling 300 fellow Republicans that the minority leader will win re-election.
McConnell finds himself in a GOP primary fight with wealthy businessman Matt Bevin, who attended the event but wasn’t allowed to speak.
“I love the number six,” Perry told the crowd at the Lincoln Reagan Dinner of West Kentucky. “Sam Houston was 6 foot 6 inches tall. And Mitch McConnell is going to be in his sixth term as United States senator.”
Organizers said the dinner was supposed to unite the Kentucky GOP behind one mission: taking control of the Kentucky House of Representatives in November. But speakers talked just as much about taking control of the U.S. Senate so McConnell could become majority leader.
“The future of America is inextricably intertwined with Kentucky and how these elections come out this time,” Perry told the crowd.

FINAL PARTING WORDS: O.K. folks; when 2016 rolls around, please do NOT forget what Rand Paul and Rick Perry did in 2014.

Barring unfgoreseen circumstances, after the election, either Senate Majority Leader Reid and President Obama will continue to represent your interests or Senator McConnell and a Republican Senate will act as a check on the dictator; those are your real choices.

Might as well start your list now. You’ll need it to remind some folks, in 2016 ;)

At least they will be doing it from outside the party.

I think its really counter productive to label good solid people like Rick Perry and Rand Paul as hoes. I don’t hear anybody calling Sarah Palin that for backing McStain who is a total whackjob. At this rate we will whittle the field of nominees down to zero.

WE all hope Matt Bevins wins but what if he doesn’t?

We have to keep Jeb and Crispy and Huck out of it. Thats who we should be concentrating the negativity at.

Rick, I don’t recall McC coming into TX in 2010 and endorsing you over Hutchison. Did I miss that?

Perry appointed Mr. Berry’s wife as TX secretary of state a few weeks ago; so the Berrys owe Perry.

No I think Perry is interested in making sure we take the Senate back and he thinks Mitch is the most likely to win that senate race.

Even though personally I loathe McConnell I can understand that line of thinking. I think Perry and many others in the republican elite are thinking if we don’t get the senate back this year we are totally screwed.

Three more years of unfettered Obama and we are going to be in CWII. Because the rule of law is being thrown out the door.

First sane post on this thread. What do Republicans not understand about a united front?

So very glad those are your FINAL PARTING WORDS. People that think like you is one reason we now have obama. Your language needs help also.

Have a good night.

hoot: “Voting for RINOs is the same as voting for any other Tyrant.”

ifin: Is not true and is n fact a lie to keep Dems in power.

Republicans in a Massachusetts voted for a RINO with their eyes wide open and got state-run health care and gay marriage. They may have been voting RINO with Republican intentions, but they were functionally voting Democrat and gave power to that force.

I voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger and for Meg Whitman -- it was either Meg or Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown. Arnold was a functional Democrat; Whitman would have been a functional leftist Democrat nanny nightmare fully on board with the environmental take-over of freedom.

RINO Schmino. Intentions don't mean squat. Function is what counts.

And you want to talk about a "lie to keep Dems in power," FRiend finnegan? That lie is that when you vote for a GOP politician who advances tyranny, that you're voting "against" tyranny. THAT is a lie to keep Dems in power even when Republicans win.

Well, Irish Eyes, I’ve used this analogy once before but I’ll use it again for you: Where McConnell is concerned, a lot of people feel like a wife whose husband has lied to her repeatedly, been unfaithful and cheated on her though she has given him chance after chance. She reaches a point to where she doesn’t even care anymore. She just doesn’t give a s**t. She just wants to see him hurt. And to pour salt on the wound, the person she thought was her friend becomes “the other woman” (Rand and Rick) who takes up with the lying, cheating husband. Now she feels betrayed by both and just wants revenge.

Apparently you are not as vindictive as most of us FReepers. And, that’s a good thing; I guess.

Every time I think Rick Perry has figured out it may be good to keep his yap shut, and just not give out endorsements...

The dumbsh!t bug bites him and this happens...

Am I surprised this made the news...Nope...

This statement was designed to illicit a response out of the true conservative base just to pizz us off...

The “Moderate/Pro-GOP Establishment” Perry is gone after this cycle...Hopefully there will not be a Governor Wendy Davis to have to deal with...

If Texas is to stay red, and its not looking good...WE have to make sure we get the vote out...And republicans are notorious for not doing that in the last 15 years...

If you want to remain the status Quo in the Lt. Governors race, by all means vote for the Establishment tard Dewhurst, or vote for the “Do you know WHO I am!!!” Dan Patrick in the runoff coming up...He’s a pompous shrill and he tends to lie a lot about stuff...But hey, proofs in the pudding...

Dispite former Texas AG Greg Abbott being my choice for Gov...Most of the rest of the top jobs are a bunch of goobs at this point...

The only one of that bunch would be Ken Paxton for AG...The rest are part of an engineered slate of folks who bought their way into this opportunity...

And we are going to have to put up with some nonsense at the end of the day...No way around it at this point...

Unless you’re ok with Democrats running Texas...

Just my opinion...
