I sold my business because of Obamacare.
I opened my restaurant, Schus Grill & Bar, in 1990. Theres no question that the new health law has impacted not only my current business but future projects, too, to the point where I sold my restaurant in January and Im in the final stages of moving on. I wont be working in a brick-and-mortar business and putting people to work. Ive chosen to go into consulting for myself and the ACA was one of the reasons, though not the only reason.
During our busy season, we are well over the 50 full-time employee threshold, which meant we had to offer private health insurance under the new law. As a small-business owner, I dont have a chief financial officer and the paperwork required would have added probably another 20 hours per month to my accounting staff. We didnt have the dollars to put into those additional labor hours.
It would have actually cost me all the profit I generated from the restaurant. Profit is not a dirty word. Its important to survive.
Before the ACA, we already offered private insurance to our employees and we paid 50% of their policies, which would have cost us $150 a month per worker. But we hired a lot of young professionals who were 27 or 28 years old and they would opt out of medical insurance because they said they didnt need it. Thats the irony.
Yes, they extended the deadline for small-business owners to comply with the ACA until 2016. They bought more time, but unless theres an evolution in the policy, its still unacceptable.

I guess that Obama’s goal for this country is right up your alley then, comrade.
This from a bit...er...witch that has never earned an honest dollar in her life, like her “husband” and soetoro.
I know all those places. I was born/raised in Marshall, and my little league team was “Eaton Yale & Towne.”
My wife and I were up there a few years ago, and we stopped by this slick new “Bistro” some people opened. They wouldn’t let us smoke, even in the crappy alley seating we had (the place used to be “Seaman’s Sporting Goods”). We said, “Well, FU” and went to Schulers. They treated us like royalty, let us smoke, and the food was as great as I remembered as a kid. I bought a couple of Yards as souvenirs, along with some highball glasses and polo shirts. A wonderful place I hit every time I’m in town. Right after I clean out the nutrolls at Louie’s Bakery (which is also still there, sans Louie who passed a few years ago).
First first-hand case I’ve heard of that one. If you get insurance through the exchange, do you know how much the policy is or is not subsidized? I am not trying to be contrarian; I honestly am curious. I bought my new replacement policy through a private broker.
Qitcherbitchin and work harder. (Do I HAVE to /S)
:^)
It certainly is. I asked about Larry when I was last at the Win Schuler’s restaurant in Marshall, and they told me about his place in St. Joe. It makes me sad that Obastard put him out of business.
it's fun to reminisce isn't it??...great memories bring warm feelings, like everything is alright!!!!!
you have a vivid imagination!
Then came this Obama joker. :(
how come noone ever says "WOW, I went to school with Obama, he was in my class and I shared a lot of classroom discussion with him"?????????
Hmmmm.....
You cut your health insurance premium payments by about two-thirds, thanks to 0Care? Really? Which plan?
What about your new deductibles?
You suspect the only people hurt by Obamacare were those who werent paying their fair share with their old policies....and, you love 0bamaCare?
Wake up and read/watch the d@&% news....there are MILLIONS hurt by 0DeathCare who WERE paying their “fair share”.
I believe you’re the ONLY FR poster (that I know of) who has claimed to love 0DeathCare.
If you (or anyone) buy insurance, then you subsidize and/or are subsidized. But then, one has to me slightly less uninformed to know that.
I’ll take “Never Happened” for $200.
Oh, that’s easy: Larry really exists and didn’t have to lie about his history or name to get where he is today.
Or a very substantial subsidy paid for by others.
I won’t be seeing you in my office, so I just wanted to wish you good luck being treated by paraprofessionals.
Libs are idiots. And it appears they outnumber us.
Nevermind. Just small town bullcarp. Won’t bother you again with the superfluous trivia.
Wow - those idiots want to make the whole country like Detroit!
How old are you? Where do you live? You claimed on another thread that you were saving $1000 a month with Obamacare, which means you were paying about $1500/mo. So you obviously have either a PEC or you’re referring to a family plan. Are you being subsidized now?
