Michael Farris and the John Birch Society Square off in Oklahoma (Article V)
Convention of States ^ | March 17th, 2014 | Jordan Sillars

If you’re interested in the Convention of States Project and enjoy a good, old-fashioned debate, you’re in for a treat.

Convention of States Project director Michael Farris will join Oklahoma State Senator Rob Standridge on March 19 and 20 to debate leaders of the Oklahoma John Birch Society on the efficacy of calling a Convention of States to stop the abuses of Washington, D.C.

Questions have been swirling around the Convention of States issue, and Michael and Rob look forward to answering many of them. A Convention of States is our best chance to stop the overreach of the federal government, and they want to explain why all arguments to the contrary fall short.

It promises to be an excellent, informative debate, and we encourage you to attend if you live in the Oklahoma City area. If you aren’t able to attend, no problem. You’ll have the opportunity to watch a recording of the debate, which we’ll post on our website.

Details are below:

DEBATE #1: On March 19 at 12 p.m., Michael Farris and Rob Standridge will debate Oklahoma John Birch Society leader Bob Donohoo.

WHERE: Olivet Baptist Church, 1201 Northwest 10th St. Oklahoma City, OK.

DEBATE #2: On March 20 at 7 p.m., Farris and Standridge will debate Donohoo and Charlie Meadows, President and Founder of the Oklahoma Conservative Political Action Committee and long-time John Birch Society member.

WHERE: Assembly of God Church, 2500 E Lindsey St. Norman, OK.

Seating is limited at both venues, so come early to save yourself a good seat!

We look forward to seeing you there.

How could term limits be ignored?

[ Too many people want to open up a Pandora’s Box With a Constitutional Comvention. Some of these people who want to do so are being duped by Liberals, Leftists, Marxists and Democrats - who would love to get the chance of rewriting the US Constitution. These liberals and Marxists would love to get a hold of those Bill of Rights and “set it straight” for our modern world, because the Founding Fathers are outdated in our present world. ]

An Article V State Convention is NOT a re-write of the damned constitution!!!!

I don’t know how many damn times I have to post this!!

It is only to PROPOSE amendments to the constitution that MUST be ratified by 38 state legislatures. Which means to effectively BLOCK a NEW amendment you only need 13 states to say NO!!! Look at an Election map next time.... 13 SOLID RED states are easy to find!

Plus the new amendments would be simple things like TERM LIMITS on Senators and Reps to limit their time in DC and the eventually onset of Potomac Fever they all seem to come down with.

RIGHT NOW!!! Congress could decide to Propose new Amendments, all those congress critters in the SWAMP known as DC could do exactly what the Convention of the States can do PROPOSE AMENDMENTS!!! Who do you trust more? A great deal of the State Legislatures or you Congress Critters in DC????

SO do you trust the Congress critters who have ran wild to PROPOSE NEW AMENDMENTS, or do you trust most of the State Legislatures to do it?

If you cannot trust the state legislatures to draft up some common sense amendments to NEUTER WASHINGTON DC? Isn’t the nation already GONE?

Oh do you honestly believe that the congress critters in DC will propose amendments to Neuter THEMSELVES? If so you may be delusional...

So far, you have said nothing of substance. There is no “there” on your side.

I hope the Washington D.C. Rampaging Bull that is currently running through the china shop of our lives decides to sit down and neuter itself because if you have you way the shopkeepers sure as hell ain’t gonna do it...

I am sure if we get a Republican majority in Both the houses all will be well and grand like it was in 2001 - 2006... I am sure a Republican Majority will certainly decide to propose new amendments to reel itself in and limit the executives power along with all the bureaucracy ....

Might as well just dissolve the states into one federal super state because I guess state legislatures mean nothing anymore...
