MOSCOW, March 18. /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian President stressed that Russia has vital interests in Crimea.
Putin says that it is important to ensure the right of all ethnicities in Crimea, including Crimean Tatars. There will be three official languages - Russian, Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar.
Vladimir Putin is talking about the history of the Crimean region and its importance to Russia.
More than 82% of the voters took part in the referendum in Crimea, and more than 96% voted for accession to Russia, Putin says.

Agreement:
Vladimir Putin signed Executive Order On Executing the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Crimea on the Admission of the Republic of Crimea into the Russian Federation and the Creation of New Constituent Entities within the Russian Federation.
The document reads:
1. To approve the draft Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Crimea on the Admission of the Republic of Crimea into the Russian Federation and the Creation of New Constituent Entities within the Russian Federation.
2. To consider it expedient to sign the Agreement envisaged hereunder at the highest level.

The agreement should be signed soon between the Russian and the Crimean governments, submitted to the Constitutional Court of Russia for review and then ratified by the respective Parliaments involved before Crimea and the City Of Sevastopol become federal subjects of the Russian Federation.
Ukrainian and any sort of a Tatar language left over from Sarai and the Golden Horde are both dead languages walking. TV and the INTERNET will kill them the same way they’ve killed the Southern accent in Texas, figure in less than 20 years stating from now.
Putin is being much more aggressive than I expected. Barry is probably getting his kneepads.
Language is just an excuse to grab land. It’s a distraction and it’s at the level that the general public can absorb. There was a time when it was illegal to speak Ukrainian which forced everyone to speak russian. The fact that more people speak russian has been pre planed.
Next they’ll separate the blonds from brunettes.
Every one in Russia is supporting the return of Crimea to Russia.
Our problem is we’re not hitting Putin where he is vulnerable; we’re hitting where he is strongest.
The West is oblivious to the depth of Russian national feelings about Crimea - this is a place that caught the Russian imagination for centuries.
It has the same resonance for Russians Jerusalem has for Jews and Kosovo has for the Serbs. Its Kievan Rus, the birthplace of Russia.
And Western threats and sanctions will not alter in the slightest the Russian attachment to it. We’re playing with a losing hand here - and badly.

This isn’t Putin propaganda - my point is that while Russians don’t want war with Ukraine - there is a unanimity of view in Russia even among Putin opponents that Crimea is part of Russia.
The West is defending the edict of a long dead Soviet dictator over the wishes of Crimea to be a part of Russia. Its going to be completed by the end of the week and there is nothing we can really do to reverse it.
We don’t have history and justice on our side - we’re reduced to defending a previous Ukrainian constitution no one voted to restore and we’re defending a regime in Kiev no voted for either. The Crimean referendum this weekend was transparent and fair.
And instead of accepting the results, America and the West talk to Russia from the point of a gun. That won’t change anything on the ground. The West can continue to try to senselessly beat up Russia or it can move on. Its made its point.
Well said: completely agree. As one who is living in Moscow right now, I can say that it’s absolutely clear here that the overwhelming majority of Russians (and Crimeans, clearly) see Crimea as a historically integral part of Russia - even those who are otherwise anti-Putin.
We all know that Putin is no saint (not by a long way) - but he’s strengthened his hand enormously over the last few weeks here, even among those who I’ve heard criticize him before. The US/western reaction to the events in Crimea - both politically and in the media - is only helping him in this respect.

We Americans have a provincial outlook that does not always serve us well.
Crimea is undoubtedly a special case. But it must not be taken to be more than that and no doubt most people in Russia would agree.
What happened in Crimea should stay in Crimea and that does not give any one - whether in Russia or in the West - justification to interfere in the internal affairs of Ukraine.
I knew Putin would be aggressive and would clean ZERO's clock.
He is still smarting from the fall of The USSR. He will do everything in his power to make us pay dearly, as we brought them down with a mighty leader. The honorable Ronald Reagan. If he were still in charge he would clean Puke Putin's clock.
Puke Putin knows better than anyone he has 3 years with very little resistance.
Followed by "Eastern Ukraine is a special case," "Western Ukraine is a special case,"and "the Baltic States are a special case." The same arguments can be made for every one of them: persecuted Russians, historically part of Russia, strategic interests, etc.
So is Kiev. Is that next?

Well if Putin was the second coming of Joe Stalin, how could he allow 50000 to protest in Moscow?
