WASHINGTON (AP) - Eat less, live longer? It seems to work for monkeys: A 20-year study found cutting calories by almost a third slowed their aging and fended off death. This is not about a quick diet to shed a few pounds. Scientists have long known they could increase the lifespan of mice and more primitive creatures—worms, flies—with deep, long-term cuts in what should be normal consumption. Now comes the first evidence that it delays the diseases of aging in primates, too—rhesus monkeys living at the Wisconsin National Primate Center. Researchers reported their study Friday in the journal Science. What...

Health experts have long warned of the risk of obesity, but a new Japanese study warns that being very skinny is even more dangerous, and that slightly chubby people live longer. People who are a little overweight at age 40 live six to seven years longer than very thin people, whose average life expectancy was shorter by some five years than that of obese people, the study found.

Some of the best places in the country to call home this year are areas where the local economy is stable and the housing market hasn't been hit with huge home price declines, according to RelocateAmerica.com's annual list of the top 100 places to live. Topping the list: Tulsa, Okla. "The economy there has been very stable," said Steve Nickerson, president and CEO of TrueV New Media Group, which operates the RelocateAmerica.com Web site. The strength of the energy industry in the area was part of why Tulsa came out on top, he said. Cities have to be nominated to...

It was not precisely lip-synching, but pretty close. The somber, elegiac tones before President Obama’s oath of office at the inauguration on Tuesday came from the instruments of Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman and two colleagues. But what the millions on the Mall and watching on television heard was in fact a recording, made two days earlier by the quartet and matched tone for tone by the musicians playing along. The players and the inauguration organizing committee said the arrangement was necessary because of the extreme cold and wind during Tuesday’s ceremony. The conditions raised the possibility of broken piano strings,...

Obama's 10 reasons for supporting infanticide Posted: January 16, 2008 1:00 am Eastern By Jill Stanek © 2008 I was intimately involved in the five-year process to pass the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act, testifying before committees twice that then-state Sen. Barack Obama sat on. Following are 10 excuses Obama has given through the years for voting "present" and "no" on the Illinois Born Alive Infant Protection Act, or BAIPA. 10. Babies who survive abortions are not protected by the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution. Obama, the sole opponent ever to speak against BAIPA, stated on the Illinois...

Will be posting updates during the night; about to take a food break. Below is what I have so far. Last night's post can be found here: http://texdozier.com/?p=52 Here we go again…all times are central. 6:05 - Jim Doyle just cited his little child’s quote that “Obama will work hard”; granted, his child has more experience than Barack Obama. 6:06 - Governor Joe Manchin of West Virginia (brought to you by Robert Byrd) 6:08 - Manchin’s “American Dream” story. 6:09 - “West Virginians value hard work, patriotism, and faith in God…they do the heavy lifting the economy…[they have] a PhD...

Check for updates; this is what we got so far: All times are central. 6:28 - Just sat down. Tonight we get to hear from Michelle Obama who I expect to tell the “American Dream” story of her husband and how he shares our values. 6:42 - The NYTs Christopher Buckley had a mock schedule for the DNC convention - title for Michelle’s speech: “If My Husband Was a Muslim, Wouldn’t I Know?”. 6:47 - The energy is truly tangible on that floor; nice music too. 6:48 - Speaking of music, look to see John Rich perform this song at...

People with normal levels of vitamin D in their body are more likely to live longer than those with a deficiency, researchers have discovered. The vitamin, produced when the skin is exposed to sunlight, helps the body absorb calcium and is considered important for bone health. A team in Austria has found that it can also have an impact...

Democrat Congressman calls for Bush impeachment10.06.2008 15:46 GMT+04:00 /PanARMENIAN.Net/ Democrat Dennis Kucinich introduced a 35-count resolution to impeach U.S. President George W. Bush, claiming that the president set out to deceive the nation, and violated his oath of office with the Iraq war. Addressing the House of Representatives on Monday evening, the Ohio congressman and former presidential candidate accused the administration of a number of offenses, including lying to Congress and the public about its reasons for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He said Bush "fraudulently" justified the war on Iraq and misled "the American people and members of Congress...

A good argument with your spouse could be just what the doctor ordered. ADVERTISEMENT Preliminary results from a survey of married couples suggest that disputing husbands and wives who hold in their anger die earlier than expressive couples. "When couples get together, one of their main jobs is reconciliation about conflict," said researcher Ernest Harburg, professor emeritus with the University of Michigan School of Public Health and Psychology Department. "Usually nobody is trained to do this. If they have good parents, they can imitate, that's fine, but usually the couple is ignorant about the process of resolving conflict." So while...

http://boortz.com/nuze/index.htmlFriday, September 21, 2007 NEWT ... A CANDIDATE? Newt Gingrich said that he might still consider throwing his hat into the ring if he can raise $30 million by November. After our American Solutions workshop on the FairTax next week, he is going to spend the month of October seeing if he can bring that money in. By November 1st, he will decide whether or not to run. Remember what I said on the air the other day? A caller asked me what I looked for in a presidential candidate. I answered that I wanted someone who really...

Where you live can be crucial to your future * Pioneering atlas reveals increasing social divisions* Researchers identify areas of riches and disadvantage Lucy Ward, social affairs correspondent Saturday September 8, 2007 The Guardian (UK) Britain is becoming increasingly segregated across all age groups by wealth, health, education and other factors, according to a pioneering atlas based on people rather than geography. The cradle-to-grave "atlas of identity", to be published on Monday, provides a visual representation of the stark social contrasts now dividing different areas of Britain, and even adjoining neighbourhoods. It shows how the area in which an individual...

At a southeast Ames coffee shop Friday morning, U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter mingled with guests, telling stories of life on the campaign trail and why he is the best candidate to be president of the United States in 2008. The gathering space was filled with a few undecided voters and a mob of Hunter supporters. It was the sort of scene that replicated itself at restaurants, cafés and candidate headquarters in Mid-Iowa throughout the day Friday as Republican senators, congressmen and former governors sought to generate excitement and the last few votes that could lead them to a better...

Call me a cynic but I find Al Gore’s emergence as this hundred-millionaire, successful businessman as a bit of a farce. I can understand the Oscar. When considering who gives out those trophies, I believe he would have won the Oscar if his “documentary” were shot by himself on a $300 camcorder. I remember when the 2,000 election was over and officially decided, one of my dear conservative friends (who shall remain nameless) actually said to me that she feels sorry for Al Gore. She felt sorry for him after hearing how after all those years in office, he was...

The only reason I subscribe to Sirius is for their Metropolitan Opera Channel which mostly rebroadcasts old Saturday afternoon performances. Even if you're not an opera fan, you can probably imagine my horror when I clicked to the Sirius site to check out the schedule and saw that the Sunday schedule was preempted and given over to "Live Earth" programming. I immediately searched for the customer service link and fired off a message to the Sirius folks. I don't have a copy. The gist of it was that I was interested in opera and not left-wing political stuff. Within minutes...

MOSUL, Iraq, April 30, 2007 — Soldiers from Company A, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, are on the frontlines every day here in Mosul, Iraq, and have a mixture of emotions on the varied experiences in the second largest city in the country. "The thing that makes me feel safe is when I hear the air support overhead. I know when we get pinned down, I can look up and hear those rockets and know the insurgents are going to pay for their damages." U.S. Army Sgt. Jesse Aguilera “We are the first ones out after something happens,” said Riverside,...
