The Ukranians are taking a defensive stand with the trenches and tanks. An aggressive stand would have them "invading" Crimea.

If the Ukranians are to defend their freedom, it will likely be by a combination of both conventional and unconventional means.

However,I'm still struggling with how anyone ( and others here have expressed the same viewpoint as yours) can so easily advocate throwing away lives and equipment, to no end.
