Anatomy of a Democratic Midterm Freakout
thewire.com ^ | 3/17/14 | Philip Bump

National Democrats are in a near panic — if the media's highly-attuned panic detectors are any indicator — with a "poisonous" president unable to use his popularity to sway voters, a "screaming siren" warning about mid-term turnout, and Republicans on the offensive on Obamacare. There are a long eight months until November, but Democrats seem unlikely to get much sleep over the interim.

There are (at least!) six reasons why.

I wish Pubs would wise up and start talking about Soros-backed candidates. We need a national campaign to expose Soros, who he is and the damage he’s done.

I am repeatedly seeing ‘Koch brothers-backed candidate’ in the news. But Republcans think because they know something everyone else does as well so Soros remains untouched.

Waiting for the inevitable Republican freak out and grab for defeat in loo of victory. You know they are examining all their options not wanting to let a victory sneak in by accident.

(from the article)
There are at least six reasons why:
1. The midterms were always going to be bad for Democrats because of turnout.
2. President Obama is near all-time lows on his approval ratings.
3. Republicans have figured out how to walk the line on Obamacare.
4. Outside Republican groups are outspending their opposition.
5. Republicans are expanding the number of races where they want to compete.
6. Democrats freaking out will only make all of the above problems worse.

defeat in loo of victory

Was that an intentional pun or a Freudian slip for "in lieu"? "Loo" is slang for toilet...

They'll do much better with turnout than they did in 2010, when they got blindsided. They've built up a formidable GOTV machine.

The GOP will take independents handily (Romney did as well), but the key to winning big is getting out the GOP vote. If 4 million GOP voters sit home as they did in 2012, be prepared to be disappointed.

If GOPe idiots keep pushing 'immigration reform', er, amnesty, look for the GOP voters to sit home.

And get ready to hand the gavel back to Pelosi.

Maybe it is time for a war. A war in Ukraine would surely rally the voters to load the Democrats back into office and take the House. Besides the kenyan likes little foreign wars. He is already involved in many. Another little war won’t hurt and this one would get him a lot more press play.

And Carl Rove is working overtime for the DNC trying to turn a Republican sweep into dust, to defeat any and all conservative candidates in the primaries or in the election.

So if you are one of the 4 million who stayed home in 2012 you basically voted for 0bama.
